Wishing Well NFP Adult Training Center Opens Drop-In Center

A new special needs teen and adult Drop-In Center opens today at Wishing Well NFP, which serves individuals from throughout the Lincoln-Way area.

The Wishing Well NFP, a training center for special needs adults, has launched a Drop-in Center.

Organized to assist adults with developmental disabilities, Wishing Well NFP (not for profit) assists in providing life experiences, educational opportunities and life skills programs. The newest venture is really focused on quality of life opportunities, said Ashley Krauchun, program director.

In the works for at least the last year, the Drop-In Center at Wishing Well NFP, located at 9610 W. Manhattan-Monee Road in Frankfort, is all about encouraging social interaction for teens and adults with developmental disabilities.  "Making friends and having new experiences isn't something that always comes easy to those with special needs, and Wishing Well NFP believes that we can make it that much easier.

"We also believe that by offering such a service will benefit not only our participants but the families of our participants, allowing them to take a break from their everyday routines," said Krauchum.

The Drop-In Center debuts June 26. It will be open from 2-7p.m. Wednesdays and from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. every other Saturday. The cost is $10 per hour.

Krauchum is proud of the benefits for individuals and their families provided by the Drop-In Center. The intention is to offer a chance for teens and adults with special needs to "build relationships that can last a life time."

Another social engagement opportunity that Wishing Well NPF is planning is a regular monthly social night program. Once a month on Fridays, the center is looking forward to hosting everything from dances to Bingo and game night to ice cream socials. "We have such a wonderful and loving staff that always goes the extra mile for all of Wishing Well participants, and they are thrilled about the launch of our new program," said Krauchum.

Wishing Well NFP is designed with the special needs teen and adult in mind. Debra Dobrez, founder and executive director, highlighted some of the organization's activities, including day programming and transitional opportunities for teens in special education programs.
