Moustis Announces GOP Candidacy for Will County Board in 2014

Jim Moustis, District 2 Will County Board Member, throws his hat in the ring for the same seat in 2014.

Frankfort's Jim Moustis announced Aug. 1 his intention to run for the Will County Board, District 2. He has been on the board since 1992.

A resident of Frankfort Square, Moustis is the current Republic Caucus chairperson, and former Will County Board chairman from 2001-2012. He also serves as Frankfort Township supervisor.

“I want to continue making a difference while representing my constituents,” Moustis said.

District 2 is in the southeastern portion of Will County and includes all of Frankfort Township except the Village of Mokena. Green Garden and Manhattan Townships also are part of District 2.

As a board member, Moustis also serves concurrently as a commissioner for the Forest Preserve District of Will County. He points to his efforts on that committee as they pertain to the passage of the open space referendum in 1999. Since then, the number of forest preserves has nearly doubled, going from 40 to 76.

"The forest preserve district now holds 22,000 acres, guaranteeing that open land will be preserved in Will County for our children and grandchildren," he said in a press release.

While Moustis has served on the board, Will County’s population has doubled. With the growth came increased demand for county services, such as road improvements.

“I know that people are very sensitive to the size of their real estate tax bills. The county portion of the real estate tax bill has not increased in more than three years. And services have not decreased because of it. We have simply forced county government to become more efficient,” he said.

Moustis sums up past accomplishments:

  • As part of the 2008 Build Will transportation program, 72 percent of local road projects are funded from outside sources, including the Regional Transportation Authority.
  • Streets have been resurfaced, bridges have been built and traffic signals have been added through the program.
  • He highlighted the success of the intermodal transportation centers in Elwood and Joliet along with efforts to stir job creation.

Moving ahead, he said, “I look forward to the future of Will County and how I can help make it better. I will build on past accomplishments, not sit on them! That is my nature and inclination, he said.
