“I'm a little nervous because no one's seen (the movie) before. There's a little apprehension. It's like Christmas, buying a gift for your new mother-in-law.” --Jayson Bernard, a Chicago actor who stars in D.I.N.K.s, the new movie by Frankfort filmmaker Robert Alaniz. The fifth film and first comedy for Alaniz, D.I.N.K.s had a special sneak preview Thursday night in Orland Park. Top-ranked Eagles qualify 11 for sectional from state's toughest regional meet; Lincoln-Way Central and Lincoln-Way East finish third and fourth, respectively.
Things may not have unfolded exactly as they had hoped, but when you win a title and advance 11 individuals from the state's toughest regional, you can't complain too much. That's how Carl Sandburg's wrestlers chose to look at Saturday's Class 3A Lockport Regional, where the state's top-ranked team prevailed over a field that featured four other ranked teams. The Eagles won three titles and had four runners-up to help them compile 230.5 points, which proved to be more than enough to capture their seventh regional title in the past eight years. Host Lockport edged Lincoln-Way Central 190.5-190 for second place while Lincoln-Way East beat out Providence Catholic 144.5-142 for fourth place in the 11-team competition. The Eagles received …

RedHawks finish behind Harlem, while L-Way West claims third and L-Way East nabs fifth place in inaugural tourney.
Marist hoped to capture the initial Lincoln-Way East Invitational and turned in the types of numbers that usually result in a wrestling tourney title. Those include having 13 placewinners, six individuals in title matches and three champions in the 12-team competition in Frankfort. But, while that effort might have been good enough to emerge as champions on most days, on Saturday it resulted a second-place finish for the RedHawks. Harlem capitalized on some better draws and plenty of pins to defeat Marist 245-232 for top honors in the competition. The tournament featured teams whose head coach or an assistant wrestled at the University of Illinois, the alma mater of East coach Tyrone Byrd. Lincoln-Way West was third with 196.5 points, …

"Most of my time is spent making beats. That's my hobby, I guess, and my future career. That's how I hope to make my living. Everyone wants a job that's fun to go to." --Cody Knazze, a Lincoln-Way North High School senior who is building a reputation in the music world by creating hooks and beats then leasing and selling them to other musicians. Fine a federal regulatory group imposed on Canadian National Railway, which owns a line that runs through Frankfort. The downtown music shop began the new year with a bluegrass concert and is looking at expanding to space on the second floor of the Trolley Barn. Lincoln-Way East notches third-place finish at Palatine's 26-team wrestling tournament.
A year ago, Derek Nagel received the top seed at 171 pounds at Palatine's Berman Holiday Classic, but then proceeded to take fifth place at that weight. So, after getting the top seed again this season, this time at 160, the Lemont senior was determined to not have a repeat performance. After competing in four matches over the past two days, it's safe to say that Nagel is much happier about this season's showing. Nagel defeated Lincoln-Way Central's Tom Gross 6-2 in the 160-pound championship match at the 26-team competition that concluded on Wednesday. He improved to 18-0, while handing Gross, a senior for the Knights, only his second defeat in 20 matches. "I was the No. 1 seed last year and ended up taking fifth place, and I wasn't too …

Warrior wrestlers cap 3-0 day by pulling out 35-31 victory over Griffins in district's quadrangular wrestling meet.
Failing to win last year's Lincoln-Way Cup--the prize given to the winner of the district's quadrangular wrestling meet--left a bad taste in the mouths of Lincoln-Way West's wrestlers. With that entire team back and playing host to this year's competition, the Warriors were determined to get the better of the other Lincoln-Way squads this time around. After blanking North in its opener and then claiming a decisive win over last year's champion Central, West met up with East in the finale to determine the champion. The Warriors went out and won four of the first five matches, which included three falls, to grab an early 22-4 advantage over the Griffins. East managed to pull to within 25-22 with four matches to go but West responded with …

Langenderfer leads Lincoln-Way East to second-place finish; Romeoville's Hardy rules at 112, while Andrew picks up championships from Ferguson and Chojnowski.
A year ago, Frankie Campos used a championship in the Stagg Invite to help him kick off a season in which he finished sixth at the IHSA state wrestling finals. Following Saturday's competition in the same tournament, the Bolingbrook senior wrestler hopes that a second title will translate into even more success. Campos followed up on his title at 112 from a year ago by taking top honors at 119 to help the Raiders to a third-place showing with 144.5 points. In the championship match at 119, Campos defeated Bradley-Bourbonnais' Jacob Iguartua with a technical fall by a 20-5 score. "Coming into the tournament, I was a little nervous about wrestling at 119 against some kids who are bigger than me," Campos said. "But when I saw they weren't as …

Lincoln-Way East wrestlers drop first dual of year in SWSC Blue opener at Lockport.
Tyrone Byrd felt that the 18-point defeat his Lincoln-Way East wrestling team suffered against Lockport on Thursday was a bit misleading. The Griffins coach realized that a few more matches could have gone his team's way instead of swinging to the Porters, often as the result of a fall. As a result, Lockport won nine of the 14 matches in the SouthWest Suburban Blue Conference meet, which featured no result smaller than a major decision. While both squads recorded four pins, the host Porters owned a 4-1 edge in major decisions and also picked up a forfeit win to capture a 46-28 victory. It marked the first defeat of the season for East (2-1), which picked up dual-meet triumphs over Glenbard South and West Chicago last week. Lockport (2-2) …
