May 8: Harold and Kumar would be proud of this trip to White Castle. Joseph Bermejo, 27, of the 9200 block of Brandon Avenue, Chicago, was charged with possession of marijuana, according to an Evergreen Park report. Police saw a car in the rear parking lot of White Castle, 2555 W. 95th St., and reported smelling an odor of marijuana coming from it. When the car tried to leave, a cigar was tossed out of the window. About 0.7 gram of a substance that tested positive for marijuana was found. Busts At Hooters: Weird Crimes

April 30: Diners at the restaurant known for being delightfully tacky decided to split without paying their checks when they finished enjoying the view. Oak Lawn police responded to a reported dine-and-dash at Hooters at 9159 S. Cicero Ave. around 10:21. A table of three women and one man finished eating their meal and were talking amongst themselves when they all got up and left without paying their $91.30 tab, police said. The second dine-and-dash incident occurred the evening of April 21 around 9:50 a.m., police said. An off-duty police officer advised that four adults had just fled the restaurant and were heading southbound on Keating Avenue from 92nd Street in a Chevy Tahoe. Eight people were hit with charges from the two incidents. …

Cops Stop Litterbugs, Charge Driver with Pot Possession: Weird Crimes

  April 20: Everybody is a critic, even when they're about to be hit with a DUI charge. Robert R. Schumacher, 35, of the 6300 block of Kimberly Drive in Tinley Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08 and improper lane use, according to a report. Police stopped Schumacher at about 9:54 p.m. in the 19800 block of South LaGrange Road after seeing his SUV accelerate rapidly and weave in its lane, according to the report. He told police he had four craft beers at a local bar. He performed field sobriety tests, after which he was arrested. During the arrest, he asked if he could call his “state trooper buddy” but was denied, the report stated. Police said he continued to be …

April 21: Maybe Nathaniel Leavitt thought he was in The Matrix. Police stopped Leavitt at about 1:19 a.m. near 183rd Street and Dixie Highway after police saw him failing to come to a complete stop at an intersection, according to the report. Leavitt moved as though he was in "slow motion," police said, and they smelled alcohol. Leavitt, 33, of the 3700 block of 168th Street, Country Club Hills, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, failing to provide proof of insurance, failing to yield at an intersection and failing to notify the Secretary of State of an address change, according to a report. April 14: A 26-year-old man reported that a woman slapped him several times at George’s Lounge at 5407 W. 95th St. around 1:40 a.m. The man told police the woman got angry and slapped him four times in the face after he called her a “bad dancer.” Police said the man was “highly intoxicated” and could not provide a name or description of the woman, other than she was wearing a red shirt. An employee told police that man was being belligerent toward the woman throughout the evening. The man had also been “aggressive” to the employee.   March 30: Frances A. Hobin, 37, of the 13700 block of South Lawler Avenue in Crestwood, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and DUI with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08, according to a report. Police found Hobin asleep in her Honda CRV in the drive-through lane at Burger King, 14300 S. Cicero Ave. in Midlothian, according to the report. After trying to wake Hobin, an officer had to reach into the car to unlock the door. Hobin reportedly thought she was at White Castle, located at 147th Street and Cicero Avenue. She performed field sobriety tests, after which she was arrested. She also took a breath test while in police custody. Hobin is due in Markham court on June 13.   March 31: Jerome Martin, 24, of North Cottage Grove Avenue in Glenwood (full address not given), was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without insurance, according to a report. Martin was found at about 4:45 p.m. near the 3000 block of 183rd Street while police were investigating a 2006 white Chevrolet Monte Carlo that had extensive damage, according to the report. He reportedly had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. Martin told police he was walking home to Glenwood after drinking in Chicago. March 2: Amy L. Zvonik, 35, of the 400 block of Chestnut Street in Hinsdale, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08., driving below the minimum speed, driving without a valid license and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a report. Police found Zvonik asleep behind the wheel of her white Dodge Durango at around 6 p.m. near the intersection of 156th Street and LaGrange Road. The SUV was running and appeared to be in drive, according to the report. Zvonik reportedly did not wake immediately, despite the officer yelling and knocking loudly on the window. March 14: Guillermo Vega, 28, of the 1900 block of South High Street in Blue Island, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, according to a report. Police stopped Vega at about 7:10 p.m. near 14800 South Kedzie Avenue after he was seen weaving in traffic. During the stop, police noticed a smell of alcohol and two, empty 750-ml glass bottles of MD 20/20 Orange Jubilee inside the car. An officer asked for Vega’s birthday, to which he replied, “I already gave my birthday to you.
