US Post Office Backs Off Plan to End Saturday Delivery

A Congressional resolution prohibits the plan, despite the financial burden on the US Postal Service.

The plan to stop regular Saturday mail delivery was slated to begin Aug. 5, but language in a Congressional resolution prohibits implementation. The United States Postal Service Board of Governors says in an April 10 press release that the inability to cut services leaves the agency balancing a heavy financial burden. The Board intends to press for legislative changes that will allow the agency to reduce costs. "The Board continues to support the transition to a new national delivery schedule. Such a transition will generate approximately $2 billion in annual cost savings and is a necessary part of a larger five-year business plan to restore the Postal Service to long-term financial stability," said media spokesperson David Partenheimer…

U.S. Postal Service to End Saturday Mail Delivery

The U.S. Postal Service will end Saturday mail delivery by Aug. 1.

The U.S. Postal Service Wednesday morning announced it will eliminate Saturday delivery of mail by Aug. 1. The current six-days-per-week mail delivery business model is “no longer sustainable,” according to the U.S. Postal Service. Continued economic struggles and the increasing use of the Internet for communications and bill paying by consumers are among the key factors that lead to the decision. Saturday is also the lightest mail day of the week. “We must change in order to remain an integral part of the American community for decades to come,” reads a message on the U.S. Postal Service website. Santa Will Reply to Letters from Children in the Lincoln-Way Area

Thanks to a very special U.S. Postal Service program, "Santa" will reply to children who mail him their Christmas wish lists this holiday season.

Every year, millions of children sit down to make a wish list for Santa, hoping he will make all of their Christmas dreams come true. But what if Santa actually wrote back? The United States Postal Service is now accepting "Letters From Santa," a program that allows parents and caregivers to play Santa by sending a letter signed by Saint Nick to a child.
