Is Unemployment in Will County on the Rise?
December 2012 unemployment rates in Will County are lower than the rates from December 2011, but rose compared to November 2012.
Unemployment rates in Illinois increased slightly from November 2012 to December but are still down compared to the the end of 2011, according to new figures released last week. November local unemployment rates fell in nine of 12 metro areas compared to last year, according to data released by the U.S. Department of Labor and the Illinois Department of Employment Security. In Will County, however, the unemployment rate remained unchanged in October and November. The local unemployment rate was 8.1 percent for both months, according to the IDES. Numbers like the ones for Will County are nearly useless. Will County is a large and economically diverse region. What is happening in Peotone or Custer is different that what is happening in Joliet, and both are different from what's happening in the Lincoln-Way area. It is unfortunate that IDES is unable to break it down further.   more ›
