PHOTOS: Christkindl and Cookie Walk Weekend

Frankfort celebrated the holidays with two days of seasonal festivities in the village's historic downtown.

The Frankfort Historic Business Association hosted the 27th annual Christkindl celebration on Dec. 8 and 9. Christkindl celebrates Frankfort's German heritage. St. Nicholas spent the weekend in the village, giving sweets to good children and switches to bad ones. The weekend also included horse-drawn wagon rides, cookie decorating, holiday crafts, Santa's secret workshop and a pet blessing on Breidert Green, among other events. The 8th annual Cookie Walk was also held during the weekend. Ticketholders visited various downtown shops and received a cookie at each store, collecting more than 20 cookies throughout the day. PHOTOS: Christkindl Lantern Parade

Residents carried lanterns through downtown Frankfort and enjoyed a bonfire.

A traditional lantern parade was held on Saturday, the first day of Frankfort’s 27th annual Christkindl weekend. St. Nicholas led the evening procession, which departed from the Frankfort Historical Museum and ended at Breidert Green. Parade participants were provided with lanterns. Following the parade, community members gathered around a fire on the green to enjoy a few Christmas poems recited by St. Nicholas, as well as cookies and cocoa. VIDEO: St. Nicholas, Residents Parade Through Frankfort

With lanterns in hand, more than 100 people marched through the village's historic downtown to Breidert Green as part of this annual tradition. Check out our video for highlights of this event. And add your own photos.

During the holiday season, downtown Frankfort is traditionally illuminated with Christmas lights on Breidert Green and surrounding businesses. But during Christkindl Weekend, the downtown had some special, additional lighting for a time thanks to the annual St. Nicholas Lantern Parade on Saturday, Dec. 3. The parade, a Frankfort family tradition led by St. Nicholas himself, started at the Frankfort Historical Society Museum on Kansas Street and more than 100 people--mostly parents, grandparents and children--marched to Breidert Green, glow stick-lighted lanterns in tow. At the green, the participants listened to two poems read by St. Nicholas and enjoyed cookies and other treats. Check out the video in our media gallery for highlights from…
