Residents Campaign to Stop Proposed Emergency Center

Local homeowners say the project from Riverside Medical Center will cause disruptive traffic, lower home values and duplicate services in the area.

Frankfort homeowners who live near the intersection of Steger Road and La Grange Road are campaigning to stop a proposed project from Riverside Medical Center. Riverside filed an application with the state in November to construct a freestanding emergency center at Steger and La Grange Roads in unincorporated Frankfort. The 10,000-square-foot facility would cost $10.3 million to build. Silver Cross Hospital has also applied for a competing project at the intersection of Lincoln Highway and 93rd Avenue. Community members who live near Riverside’s proposed location have expressed numerous concerns about the emergency center. Riverside has owned the property since 2004 and originally intended to use the land for offices. “This was not what we…

It is staffed 24/7 with well trained and may I add, compassionate paramedics who respond immediately to any emergency. The proposed Riverside facility would be located where it could interfere with the Fire Station responding to an emergency. Riverside is just looking …   more ›

What Would an Emergency Center Mean for Frankfort?

Patch examines competing proposals to build an emergency facility in Frankfort from Silver Cross Hospital and Riverside Medical Center.

Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox and Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee both filed applications with the state last month to bring an emergency medical facility to Frankfort, as was previously reported by Sun-Times Media. Chief Executive Officer of Silver Cross Paul Pawlak expressed his opposition to the Kankakee medical center’s application in a letter to Riverside’s Chief Executive Officer Phillip Kambic, Sun-Times Media said. Advocate South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest sent a similar letter to Riverside. But what do these competing projects mean for Frankfort residents? Silver Cross is proposing a 10,000-square-foot, $8.7 million freestanding emergency center at the intersection of Lincoln Highway and 93rd Avenue, according to …

Riverside claims that discussions with area residents led to their proposal for an emergency care facility rather than medical offices. Really? Because if you talked to nearby residents of the proposed development, you would find they do not think this is an appropriate business type for a HEAVILY residential area. This will increase traffic, result in major road construction, and subject them to…   more ›

Emergency Medical Center May Come to Frankfort

Silver Cross Hospital and Riverside Medical Center both hope to build in the village, Sun-Times Media reports.

Silver Cross Hospital and Riverside Medical Center have entered competing proposals for an emergency center in Frankfort, according to a report from Sun-Times Media. The Silver Cross facility would cost $8.8 million to build and would be located at the intersection of Lincoln Highway and 93rd Avenue on a property that the hospital already owns, the report states. The center would have four treatment rooms and would be open 24 hours a day. According to Sun-Times Media, Silver Cross is $400 million in debt after relocating its hospital in February from Joliet to New Lenox. However, Silver Cross spokewoman Tracy Simons told Sun-Times Media that the hospital would not need to borrow money to build the center. Riverside, located in Kankakee, is…

Oftentimes colorectal cancer can be detected and prevented if simple steps are followed. “A majority of colorectal cancer cases can be cured when found and treated at an early stage, so regular screenings are important,” said Dr. Nikhil Bhargava, board certified gastroenterologist on staff at Silver Cross Hospital.  A sponsored article by Silver Cross Hospital. Researchers are learning more about what causes colon cancer and how it grows and progresses, however, no one knows the exact cause of colon cancer, but we do know some of the risk factors. Research indicates that a high-fat diet, lack of fiber…

I hadn't liked what his staff had said so I decided to research Dr. Bhargava further and made an appt. He listened to all of my concerns-rational and otherwise! He found and removed three suspicious looking polyps. He said to come back in three years. I told him if …   more ›

Silver Cross Hospital offers a free program and screenings in November so you can learn more about treatment for plantar fasciitis.

Heel pain affects nearly 2 million Americans each year and can be responsible for mild discomfort or even debilitating pain. The plantar fascia ligament is made of fibrous bands of tissue and runs between the heel bone and toes stretching with every step. Inflammation develops when tears occur in the tissue. The most common complaint from plantar fasciitis is a burning, stabbing, or aching pain in the heel of the foot. “Most sufferers will be able to feel it in the…
