Trustees Fret Over Route 30 Progress

Trick-or-treat hours within the Village of Frankfort have been set as 4-7 p.m. with the annual Halloween parade at 3:45 p.m. on Breidert Green.

Progress or lack thereof on the Route 30 widening project was a hot topic  at Monday night's Village Board meeting in Frankfort. Concerns ranged from Trustee Todd Morgan asking about construction barrels still in place on Harlem Avenue south of Route 30 to Trustee Mike Stevens questioning whether the project will finish on time. "Work will probably wrap up by the end of November for this year," Village Administrator Jerry Ducay said. "I expect the rest of the road construction will be complete by this time next year. "As for landscaping," he said. "That's probably going to take a little longer." The massive widening of Route 30 from Joliet to Harlem Avenue started last year and has included rerouting of utility lines, the uprooting of …

They are doing an absolutely HORRIBLE job on the new road. It is uneven and wavy. It makes you seasick. I was so disappointed in the quality of the concrete work. Once you get to the New Lenox part it is much smoother. Millions of dollars for a bad road Uggggh.   more ›

Gas Main Break Won't Delay Rt. 30 Construction

The leak near U.S. Route 30 and 78th Avenue backed up traffic Wednesday, but it won't slow down the Rt. 30 construction project, a village official said. Find out what freak accident caused the break.

A gas main break near the corner of U.S. Route 30 and 78th Avenue on Wednesday won't cause any delays on the Rt. 30 widening project, a village official said. Assistant Village Administrator Rob Piscia met with Illinois Department of Transportation officials Thursday to discuss the project in general and was told by agency representatives that the break would have no effect on the construction project. READ: Gas Main Breaks at Rt. 30 and 78th Avenue Traffic on Rt. 30 was blocked in both directions Wednesday afternoon as crews from Nicor fixed the leak, which is completely repaired. Far from ideal, accidents like this can be part and parcel for road construction projects, and crews know how to handle them, Piscia said. What was unusual …

Detour Delayed: Elsner-Rt. 30 Intersection to Close After Labor Day

IDOT moved the construction start so the road work wouldn't affect traffic for the Frankfort Fall Festival, a village official said.

Frankfort drivers and residents dreading the closing of Elsner Road at U.S. Route 30 for construction are getting a reprieve. But only for two weeks. The Illinois Department of Transportation has changed its construction start for the intersection from this week to Tuesday, Sept. 4, the day after Labor Day, said Assistant Village Administrator Rob Piscia. The move was done so that the construction wouldn't disrupt traffic for the Frankfort Fall Festival, which runs from Sept. 1 to 3. READ: Elsner-Rt. 30 Intersection to Close for Construction The road work will connect Elsner with the new Rt. 30 lanes, and it should take about 28 business days, weather—and other delays—permitting, Piscia said. Only the entrance to Elsner Road will be closed…

Detour Ahead: Elsner-Rt. 30 Intersection to Close Aug. 20

The closing, which will last about 28 days, comes as part of the U.S. Route 30 widening project, a village official said.

In order to totally reconstruct the roadway as part of the U.S. Route 30 widening project, the Illinois Department of Transportation will be closing the intersection at Elsner Road Rt. 30 for about 28 days beginning Aug. 20, a village official said. The road work will connect Elsner with the new Rt. 30 lanes, and residents are being advised to use Nebraska Street to LaGrange Road as a detour, said Assistant Village Administrator Rob Piscia. READ: Support Businesses Through These Tough Construction Times With Patch's Rt. 30 Raffle "It's basically tearing up the pavement to tie everything in with the curbs and gutters," he said. UPDATED: Support Rt. 30 Businesses Through These Tough Construction Times

The continuing delays and aggravation of the U.S. Route 30 widening project are putting many businesses in the construction zone in a financial crunch. But Patch has a plan to help ease the pain a bit. Find out how you can help.

Stop me if you've heard this one. It's a little joke going around the Lincoln-Way area about the U.S. Route 30 widening project, which began last summer and appears to have no end in sight. It goes something like this: IDOT says the construction on Rt. 30 will be done by November. They just haven't said what year. (Cue rimshot) It's the kind of joke that musters a chuckle or two because it falls into that vein of "it's funny 'cause it's true" humor. But when you're a business whose livelihood depends on customers being able to find your parking lot, the continuing construction delays aren't amusing. In fact, they're devastating. Some stores and restaurants have even lost about 50 percent of their business because of the widening project. …
