Many Frankfort Homeowners are Mortgage-Free

Crain's Chicago Business reports 20.2 percent of Frankfort homeowners own their homes outright.

Communities with a large segment of senior citizens or high median incomes tend to have the highest percentage mortgage-free homes, according to Crain’s Chicago Business.  According to the Crain's analysis of 5,194 Frankfort homeowners, 20.2 percent are mortgage-free. These numbers are lower than the Chicagoland average of 26 percent of homeowners being mortgage-free.  If you own a home, are you still paying off your mortgage? What's selling in Frankfort? A home on Georgetown Road recently sold for $447,241.

A Georgian home located at 21422 Georgetown Rd. recently sold for $447,241. The 3,669-square-foot four-bedroom house was built in 1998. It has three baths, high ceilings, new carpeting, granite countertops, a two-car garage and a patio. These properties were sold in Frankfort recently, according to Will County property records. Frankfort Sees Annual Increase in Home Sales

Sales are up 25 percent in Frankfort. Representatives from the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors say affordable prices and low interest rates have created a "perfect storm" of buyer-friendly conditions.

Single-family home sales in the Chicago suburbs grew 41 percent in February 2013, compared to the same month in 2012, according to data provided by the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors (MORe). In the south suburbs, sales in the majority of Patch communities aligned with this trend, with 10 out of 14 towns experiencing an increase in sales, three towns experiencing a sales decrease and one town remaining the same year-over-year. Evergreen Park saw the most growth in the Southland, with 23 homes sold in February 2013 and only five homes sold one year prior, totaling a 360 percent increase in sales.
