The competition was open to sixth, seventh and eighth grade students and broken down between private and public schools. Providence Catholic extends its warmest thanks and congratulations to all of the students, parents and schools who participated in this exciting event. Don Sebestyen, principal of Providence Catholic High School, is proud to announce the 2013 National Honor Society (NHS) members, which were officially inducted during a ceremony in mid-March. “These new members have received one of the highest honors granted to students at Providence Catholic and other high schools across the nation and we are very proud of their extraordinary academic achievements,” said Sebestyen. Providence Catholic National Honor Society is founded on the principles of scholarship, leadership, character and service. The selection process begins when students who meet academic qualifications are given applications for NHS membership. The high schools in the Lincoln-Way communities are accustomed to canine sniffers for contraband, but it's heading into the elementary level too.
New Lenox School District 122 is bringing in a handler and his dog to sniff for drugs, firearms and ammunition as a precaution. Administrators are working out a schedule to introduce Interquest Detection Canines—Glenn VadeBoncoeur and his dog—to the schools. In the wake of the Sandy Hook School shooting in December 2012, school officials have been revamping and hyping up their security measures. The program is planned to get underway before the end of the school year. Celtic varsity cheerleaders take home the top trophy from the NCA Open Nationals Championship in Louisville, KY.
Providence Catholic High School varsity cheerleaders were crowned Grand National Champions at the NCA Open Nationals Championship. They were honored for their achievement Feb. 25 at the New Lenox Village Board meeting. Mayor Tim Baldermann read a proclamation in their honor, citing their hard work and commitment. The 21-member squad captured the award Feb. 23 in Louisville, KY. The Celtics took first place and were named National Champions in the Advanced Small Varsity Division, said Jamie O'Brien, PCHS communications director. "They also had the highest score of all the divisions at the competition, which earned them the Grand National Champion title." Four seniors made their selections official in ceremony at school on Wednesday.

They each committed to continue their football careers at the collegiate level. “We are extremely proud of these student-athletes who are leaders among their peers and have worked hard in the classroom and on the field. The Celtics take 1st at the IHSA Cheerleading Tournament in Bloomington.
Providence Catholic High School's varsity cheerleaders made history Feb. 2 by earning the school's first State Championship title at the Illinois High School Association Cheerleading Tournament in Bloomington. With a score of 93.72, the cheerleaders gave PCHS its 26th State Championship title. The varsity cheerleaders placed second in State in 2007, third in 2011, fourth in 2012 and fifth in 2009. The squad won its IHSA Sectional Cheerleading Championship title for the third year in a row, said Jamie O'Brien, PCHS communications director. "Furthermore, they had an undefeated season." Unless you have something to hide I don't see the big deal. You say our children are in "nonexistent" danger? Are these school shootings "nonexistent"? Are these drug overdoses "nonexistent"? Sorry but schools have a right to do this to keep the children safe. Kinda like the saying "my house, my rules". I want to know my children are save when I send them off to school.
