13-year-old Frankfort Girl Missing: Police Dog Lost Scent (UPDATE)

A 13-year-old Frankfort girl has gone missing.

UPDATE: 10:55 a.m. Monday Frankfort Deputy Police Chief Kevin Keegan reported that the missing girl has been found. She is safe and sound. ... Original Story: Frankfort Police are attempting to find a missing 13-year-old girl who left home sometime before 8 a.m. today. While neither the girl's name nor a photo has been released, she is described as being 5-foot-4-inches tall and weighing 95 pounds.  She has dark brown hair. There was no clothing description available. Frankfort Deputy Police Chief Kevin Keegan said the girl's parents said she apparently took along a small amount of money, packed some clothes in a black backpack and left on a blue mountain bike. Why call people names? I think we are all well aware she more than likely took off on her own. That does not mean she isn't in danger. Someone could have picked her up or worse. A 13 year old making a break for it doesn't know how to make good decisions obviously. That alone puts them in danger.   more ›

Rosie the Forest Preserve Police Dog Retires

The bloodhound ended her career as a search and rescue dog in Will County this September.

For seven years, Rosie the bloodhound spent her days sniffing out justice as a search and rescue man-trailing dog with the Forest Preserve District of Will County Police Department. She was the forest preserve’s first police dog, and on Sept. 21, her ninth birthday, Rosie retired, due to arthritis and chronic ear infections. However, she still sometimes visits the department with her owner and former handler, Lieutenant Tracy Phillips, strolling up and down the halls and looking for an affectionate pat. “She’s pampered is what she is,” said Bruce Hodgdon, public information specialist and press liaison for the forest preserve district.
