PHOTOS: Lincoln-Way East Football Honored With Parade

The Griffins participated in a parade and ceremony after competing in the Class 7A state championship game.

Every game has a winner and a loser. It's a part of football, and it's a part of life. While the Lincoln-Way East High School Griffins did not win the Class 7A state championship title, they can hardly be called losers. They stepped out on that Memorial Stadium field as conference champions. They stepped out on that field 13-0. They gave all they had to give and then some more. They are definitely champions. After such a difficult loss, a parade may have been the last thing on the Griffins' minds. But the Lincoln-Way community was not going to let them hang their heads and sit at home. VIDEO: St. Nicholas, Residents Parade Through Frankfort

With lanterns in hand, more than 100 people marched through the village's historic downtown to Breidert Green as part of this annual tradition. Check out our video for highlights of this event. And add your own photos.

During the holiday season, downtown Frankfort is traditionally illuminated with Christmas lights on Breidert Green and surrounding businesses. But during Christkindl Weekend, the downtown had some special, additional lighting for a time thanks to the annual St. Nicholas Lantern Parade on Saturday, Dec. 3. The parade, a Frankfort family tradition led by St. Nicholas himself, started at the Frankfort Historical Society Museum on Kansas Street and more than 100 people--mostly parents, grandparents and children--marched to Breidert Green, glow stick-lighted lanterns in tow. PHOTOS: Costumed Dogs Parade Park, Bark at the Moon

Area canines--and their owners--participated Thursday in the Howl-A-Woof Dog Parade at Commissioners Park. Plus, take our Patch Poll on whether you dress up your pet for Halloween.

Humans aren't the only ones who get to enjoy Halloween fun. Canines from around the south suburbs were decked out in their best costumes for the Howl-A-Woof Dog Parade on Thursday at Commissioners Park. The event, sponsored by the Frankfort Park District and Chew On This Dog Barkery, had dogs trick-or-treating for doggy snacks and competiting for prize baskets. World Trade Center Steel Beam Arrives in Frankfort

The 8-foot piece will be on display at the fire protection district's headquarters before being part of next week's Fall Festival parade.

An 8-foot steel piece from the World Trade Center is now on display at the Frankfort Fire Protection District's Nebraska Street headquarters. The district announced the steel beam's arrival on its Facebook page over the weekend. Fire Chief Jim Grady requested the piece from the Port Authority of New York-New Jersey to be a part of the Frankfort Fall Festival parade Sunday, Sept. 4, as part of the district's uniformed march to honor the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

Your Guide to Fireworks, Parades, Hot Dog Contests, Duck Races, Petting Zoos, Fun Runs and Other Fourth of July Festivities Throughout the Southland

From June 30th to July 4th, the South Suburbs are packed with Independence Day fun. Don't miss the chance to party.

The 43rd annual Independence Day Parade will be held Friday, July 1, at 6:30 p.m. starting at 95th Street and Pulaski Road to 95th and Richmond Avenue. Fireworks start at dusk at Duffy Park, 92nd Street and Ridgeway Avenue. If it rains on Friday, fireworks will be held on Sunday, July 3. The sixth annual 4th of July Parade at 10 a.m. from 51st Avenue and 95th Street to 55th Court and 95th Street kicks off the day’s events in Oak Lawn. The parade consists of more than 100 entries which include military color guards to mascots including South Paw (White Sox), Skates (Wolves) and Benny the Bull (Bulls), antique cars, dignitaries, parade units and marchers of all ages.
