What Are Your Favorite Films About Summer?

With Frankfort's outdoor summer movie series under way, we want to know what films always remind readers of this time of year.

There's something about watching a movie outside that's doubly enjoyable. You get to indulge in an entertaining flick without sacrificing a beautiful summer's evening. VOTE: What's Your Favorite Village Summertime Event? Frankfort kicks off its free outdoor summer film series Wednesday, June 6, on Breidert Green with Zookeeper. Movies start at dusk (about 8:30 p.m.) with a preview and a cartoon screening beforehand (starting around 7:45 p.m.). Free popcorn will be available from Kernel Sweetooth, and flim-goers can bring blankets and lawn chairs (large, view-obstructing hats, however, are frowned upon). Frankfort Movie to Screen at Illinois Int'l Film Festival

Local filmmaker Robert Alaniz's first comedy will compete in this month's festival in Chicago.

D.I.N.K.s, Frankfort filmmaker Robert Alaniz's latest movie, has earned a spot in this month's Illinois International Film Festival. The festival runs Nov. 18-20 at the Viaduct Theater in Chicago. The film, which will compete in the best comedy category, will screen at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19. Tickets are $10. READ: Frankfort Filmmaker's First Comedy Is No Children's Movie D.I.N.K.s tells the story of a child-free couple and the difficulties they face as they try to find their niche in a town full of undisciplined parents and kids. The movie was shot mostly in Orland Park, with some location filming done at Down Home Guitars and the now-closed Empire Books in Frankfort.  The movie's music also has a local connection. L-W Grad, Filmmaker Gives His Five Tips to Making a Movie

Former Frankfort resident Brad Podowski also screens his Halloween-themed short film, 'Lady Death,' at Friday's Halloween Haunting.

Brad Podowski might not have a Hollywood address, but that doesn't mean he's not serious about his filmmaking. The former Frankfort resident and Lincoln-Way High School grad has been working on movies in the Chicago area for almost a decade, plying his trade as an editor, director and screenwriter. Podowski, who currently lives in Matteson, also worked with Frankfort filmmaker Robert Alaniz on his production, Barrymore's Dream.
