Last year was a big year for Moraine Valley Community College. A new Board of Trustees elected after the April local elections will be tasked with solving challenges and guiding the community college. Three, 6-year terms and one unexpired, two-year term are up. Early voting begins March 25. Election Day is April 9. The past year for Moraine Valley Community College has been one of interesting developments. Sylvia Jenkins, the Palos Hills-based college's new president, spoke about developing it as a place welcoming to everyone. She talked with Sun-Times Media about ways to improve the college in the coming months and years. Moraine Valley serves 26 communities in south suburbs. One area which likely will be seen as an improvement to the campus sprouted in December. Construction began on a Health Wellness and Education Center, which is modeled after similar facilities at two universities. It's expected to be completed by 2014. The Lincoln-Way East and Lincoln-Way North Poms took their award-winning routines to state recently, finishing in the top 10 of their divisions. “We had a great team this year that worked really well together and had goals set to achieve,” said Lincoln-Way North Poms Coach Monica Bozek. “This season has been truly a great one for the whole squad,” said Lincoln-Way East Poms Coach Maria Gaytan. “The team was a very talented bunch of young ladies, and they all worked hard to achieve the goals we set in the beginning of the season.” Lincoln-Way East’s Poms competed in the Class AAA division and captured 6th in Hip Hop and 11th in Poms.
