She scored 17 points, had five steals and four rebounds in a 67-23 girls basketball victory over Nobles Street-Muchin in the Class 3A DeLaSalle Regional.

Wrestling: Sandburg Rules Roost at Southwest Suburban Conference Tournament

Sandburg had four individual champions and 13 placewinners en route to winning the unofficial title in the Southwest Suburban Conference wrestling tournament Saturday at Joliet Central.

Wrestling: Knights Nab Lincoln-Way Cup

Lincoln-Way Central swept duals from district rivals L-W East, L-W West and L-W North to capture the Lincoln-Way Cup in wrestling Saturday at L-W North.

The Lincoln-Way Cup is changing addresses. After an exhausting quad wrestling meet between all four of the Lincoln-Way high school teams, the Cup found its way to Lincoln Way Central, as the Knights pinned their way to victory against their district rivals Saturday in Frankfort. As the Knights took on the Warriors, Griffins and Phoenix, their aggressive, hard-charging style quickly propelled early leads against their competition and led to a sweep in the quad. “That's the style we've had at Lincoln-Way for just a long time, over at Central, and I just kind of continued when I took over,” Knights coach Jason DePolo said. “That's exactly where we want to be, just pushing the pace the entire time." IHSA Announces New Individual Wrestling State Final Format

Plan allows for six medal winners in all three classes of competition beginning in 2012.

The Illinois High School Association Board of Directors approved a recommendation for a format change to the IHSA individual wrestling state finals at its regularly scheduled meeting on Monday. The new format will feature 16 qualifiers per each of the 14 weight classes in each of the three classes. The format also will feature consolation wrestlebacks beginning after the quarterfinal rounds and the top six individuals in each weight class will medal. In order to complete the expanded tournament, the state tournament will now begin on Thursday, which had previously been reserved for warm-up mat time and meetings. “Essentially, what we have done is taken the Class 3A tournament format and copied it for Class 1A and Class 2A,” said IHSA …

Maybe you didn't read or understand the entire article. It says that the classes are now fairly and equally represented. All the kids are not getting a championship medal, they are getting a medal that represents their placement in that tournament.
