Top Headlines: Military Dad Comes Home and Surprises Son, L-W North wins Golden Apple Award

The top two headlines in Frankfort Patch that captured the attention of readers were good news.   New Lenox Dad Home from Kuwait: Surprises Son at Haines School Daniel Powers, a 1st-grader at Haines School in New Lenox, got an amazing surprise. His dad, Keith Powers, arrived home from Kuwait today. The National Guardsman has been overseas for 9 months. Make sure to watch the video. Golden Apple Award Winner Surprised in Lincoln-Way North Classroom

Lincoln-Way North's Linda Egnatz wins Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching, presented with award in surprise visit.

Lincoln-Way North High School teacher Linda Egnatz got the surprise of her life—and a Golden Apple Award—during a visit from Golden Apple representatives May 1. Egnatz, who teaches Spanish III, Spanish IV, Spanish V, AP Language, AP Literature at Lincoln-Way North High School, was presented with a Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching in front of her students. An excited and overwhelmed Egnatz thanked the administrators, those involved in her nomination and the students.   “When I see my students interacting with locals in another country, I know they are prepared,” Egnatz said in a Golden Apple press release.  Her students develop the confidence that builds motivation, and they make connections that engender global understanding …

Last month, I went on a trip to France and Spain that was led by Señora Egnatz. While I am very competent in French, I don't speak a lick of Spanish. All of her students were very helpful in the country and they all speak of her very highly. Her students revere her. In my experiences speaking with her, she has always been very kind and is always willing to lend a hand. She deserves this!   more ›
