Lincoln-Way East's Kacyee Hart allowed one run on five hits in a six-inning stint over Sandburg that culminated with the Griffins finally taking down their neighborhood rival.

Lincoln-Way East 4, Sandburg 1: Junior catcher Sam Stewart slugged a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning to power the Griffins in a battle between neighborhood rivals Thursday in Frankfort.
Touching All the Bases: The question of which ball was hit harder drew a smile from Lincoln-Way East softball coach Elizabeth Pawlicki. Pawlicki said she was OK after taking a hot smash off the bat of Sam Stewart in the right leg while standing in the third base coach’s box in the sixth inning of the Griffins’ 4-1 victory over Sandburg Wednesday in Frankfort. The Eagles were all but knocked out when Stewart connected earlier for a two-run homer. Her fourth-inning blast was her sixth of the season and put East on top 3-0 in the Southwest Suburban Blue Conference showdown between neighborhood rivals. Junior catcher Sam Stewart has emerged as a force for the Lincoln-Way East softball team—both on offense and defense.
Sam Stewart is tearing the cover off the ball—just like everyone else in Lincoln-Way East’s lineup. Stewart, a junior catcher, had three hits in four at-bats in East’s 12-4 softball victory over Andrew on Tuesday afternoon in Tinley Park. She doubled and tripled as the Griffins pounded two T-Bolt pitchers for 13 hits and notched their seventh win in eight games. And by the time Lincoln-Way East put the finishing touches on a 12-4 softball victory over Andrew, Griffins coach Elizabeth Pawlicki said she was freezing. Happy tears: Eight recruits were honored during a ceremony Wednesday in the Griffins' Lair.
Lincoln-Way East softball coach Katie Meader told the story of how Kacyee Hart tossed a 6-0 shutout against her alma mater, Lockport, in a bounce-back game for the Griffins last spring. Then, Meader recalled how Brianna Morell leaped at the fence to rob a Joliet West hitter of a home run. Meader’s emotions were working overtime as she spoke about her two latest recruits during a college signing-day ceremony Wednesday in the Griffins’ Lair. She choked back tears—happy tears. Eight East senior student-athletes announced their college plans during the ceremony. Before—and after the formal part of the program—proud parents took photographs for their scrapbooks. Lincoln-Way East's girls are wore a bit of pink for Strikeout Breast Cancer Day. While the Griffins dropped a 5-2 decision to Oak Forest, they won a bigger ballgame.
On Strikeout Breast Cancer Day, Sarah Esposito and Kacyee Hart each pitched 3.1 innings for Lincoln-Way East. The Griffins battled Oak Forest to a 2-2 deadlock into the bottom of the seventh inning in a matchup of softball powers. Then, Bengals catcher Emily Naegele connected for a three-run game-winning homer. And Oak Forest prevailed 5-2. But both sides were winners in a game that was played for a much bigger cause. Jourdan Skirha and Ashley Ventrella hit solo homers in the bottom of the second to stake Oak Forest to a 2-0 lead.
