The Story Behind Historic Frankfort's Haunted House

Frankfort resident Kevin Ziegler has come to live peacefully with what he believes are the ghosts of two girls who died in his historic home.

Editor's Note: A shorter version of the story below was included in Frankfort Patch's Halloween article, Historic Hauntings in Frankfort. After publication of that article, Patch was contacted by Frankfort homeowner Kevin Ziegler, who provided further details regarding his house in historic Frankfort and its inhabitants. As a child growing up in the Lincoln-Way area, Kevin Ziegler loved the four-story Victorian mansion at the corner of Sauk Trail and Center Road in historic Frankfort. Today, Ziegler owns the house, which was abandoned for 15 years before he purchased it 13 years ago. Jaycees Move Annual Fright Fest Into Scarier Quarters

Haunted House, sponsored by Frankfort and Mokena Jaycees, moves to new spot on Harlem Avenue after 14 years at the Frankfort Square Park District.

For years, monsters, ghouls and other creatures haunted the halls of the Frankfort Square Park District every October. This year, the monsters have moved their act down the street a few blocks and now haunt a vacant storefront at 19818 S. Harlem Ave. in the Harlem Crossings shopping center, where things are definitely going bump in the night. After 14 years of scaring the daylights out of people at the park district, the Frankfort Jaycees moved the Haunted House into bigger and more frightening digs this Halloween season. "We wanted a bigger location," said Jaycees President Ken Blank. "It was time to move on." The Haunted House, co-sponsored by the Mokena Jaycees, is bigger than ever.
