Will County Board Says 'No' to Harlem Ave. Car Wash

Frankfort Township Residents won a victory over a car wash looking for a zoning change to open near a residential area, WJOL reports

The proposed Lenny's Gas N Wash was turned down on a request for a zoning change by the Will County Board recently. The owners were seeking a zoning change and three special use permits to open a facility on Harlem and 194th Avenues. All three requests were shot down by the Will County Board, according to a WJOL report.  The sticking points were highlighted by Frankfort Township residents at the meeting. Nearby residents showed up to express their displeasure over a car wash that also wanted authorization to function as a liquor-selling convenience store that would be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, WJOL reported. Pickup Truck Catches Fire at LaGrange Road Gas Station

No one was injured as firefighters put out the blaze in 15 minutes.

A pickup truck caught fire Wednesday afternoon at a LaGrange Road gas station, according to a Frankfort Fire Protection District report. The fire department received a call around 1:15 p.m. that a diesel truck was on fire at the Speedway at 23310 S. LaGrange Road. Firefighters arrived to find the engine compartment of a pickup truck on fire, the report stated. The vehicle was not parked near the station's fuel pumps. Fire crews put out the blaze in about 15 minutes, and no one was injured, according to the report. "We normally send a single engine company for car fires, but when the call comes in as a diesel truck on fire at a gas station, our first thought was a large 8,000 gallon tanker truck was off loading and caught on fire, so we …
