Patch examines competing proposals to build an emergency facility in Frankfort from Silver Cross Hospital and Riverside Medical Center.
Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox and Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee both filed applications with the state last month to bring an emergency medical facility to Frankfort, as was previously reported by Sun-Times Media. Chief Executive Officer of Silver Cross Paul Pawlak expressed his opposition to the Kankakee medical center’s application in a letter to Riverside’s Chief Executive Officer Phillip Kambic, Sun-Times Media said. Advocate South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest sent a similar letter to Riverside. But what do these competing projects mean for Frankfort residents? Seafood fans might soon have a new local option, after a proposed restaurant cleared one hurdle towards opening. The Frankfort Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals recommended the approval of special use permits for liquor sales and outdoor seating for Dancing Marlin, a restaurant specializing in seafood and American fare, at a commission meeting on Dec. 13. The Frankfort Village Board of Trustees will vote on the approval of these permits at its upcoming meeting on Dec. 17. The Frankfort Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals heard a request on Thursday from a resident hoping to open a new martial arts space in the village.
A new martial arts studio may be coming to Frankfort. The Frankfort Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals heard a special use permit request from Jillian Turner at a meeting on Nov. 8. Turner would like to open a martial arts studio at 752 Center Rd. Frankfort Martial Arts and Family Fitness would teach a wide range of skills, including karate, taekwondo, cardio kickboxing, boxing, yoga and self-defense, according to documents provided by the plan commission and zoning board. “We’re just very happy to see a family-owned business, a local resident of Frankfort, make the commitment to Frankfort,” said Mike Stevens, who is the village board liaison for the plan commission and zoning board.
