PHOTOS: Candlelight House Walk

Ticketholders toured several Frankfort homes, all of which were decorated for the holidays.

Frankfort residents and visitors from across the Chicagoland area gathered Friday evening to share in the holiday spirit at the 32nd annual Candlelight House Walk. The event, which was hosted by the Frankfort Area Historical Society, featured four local homes, all of which were decked out from attic to basement with holiday décor. Candlelight House Walk to Bring Holiday Spirit to Frankfort

The annual event is the primary source of revenue for the Frankfort Area Historical Society.

The Frankfort Area Historical Society will host the 32nd annual Candlelight House Walk on Friday. “It’s a nice evening out,” said Judy Herder, president of the historical society. Each year, the house walk features several Frankfort homes at their holiday best. Selected homeowners are each paired with a local florist, who donates a complimentary arrangement to the house, and provides $200 in flowers, which is paid for by the historical society. During the house walk, a brass quintet will travel from house to house, playing holiday music…

Rachel Gilmore knows a thing or two about Frankfort history, having worked extensively with the Frankfort Area Historical Society and penning an illustrated book about true story of Civil War General William Tecumseh Sherman's horse, Sam, and his village connection. But even she was surprised what she found out when she researched the village as part of Arcadia Publishing's Images of America book series. The Frankfort edition, which went on sale this week, captures the history of the area through archival photos, many of which were provided by the local historical society.
