Snowstorm May be Frankfort Bound for Thursday

Ice and snow are projected to strike the area later this week.

After a nearly snowless early December, Frankfort may finally see some winter weather in the coming days. According to AccuWeather: "A blizzard will unfold near the Colorado/Kansas border Wednesday and will roll northeastward to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and central Ontario by late Thursday. The storm will become known for high winds over the Plains, Midwest and eventually the East. Over the Plains and the Upper Midwest, where snow falls and wind gusts reach 50 mph, extensive blowing and drifting snow is in store with local whiteout conditions. Widespread travel problems are anticipated with this storm." Emergency Medical Center May Come to Frankfort

Silver Cross Hospital and Riverside Medical Center both hope to build in the village, Sun-Times Media reports.

Silver Cross Hospital and Riverside Medical Center have entered competing proposals for an emergency center in Frankfort, according to a report from Sun-Times Media. The Silver Cross facility would cost $8.8 million to build and would be located at the intersection of Lincoln Highway and 93rd Avenue on a property that the hospital already owns, the report states. The center would have four treatment rooms and would be open 24 hours a day. According to Sun-Times Media, Silver Cross is $400 million in debt after relocating its hospital in February from Joliet to New Lenox. However, Silver Cross spokewoman Tracy Simons told Sun-Times Media that the hospital would not need to borrow money to build the center. Riverside, located in Kankakee, is…

Will County Police Blotter: Second Masked Robbery at Frankfort Circle K

Will County Sheriff's Office reports, Oct. 17-21 • Gold and Jewelry Stolen in Frankfort Break-In • Second Masked Robbery at Frankfort Circle K • Equipment Stolen from Electrician’s Truck in Mokena • Tools Stolen From Truck in Frankfort.

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 17 Unknown persons broke into a residence on the 7500 block of W. Lakeside Drive in Frankfort. Gold coins and jewelry were stolen. THURSDAY, OCT. 18 Deputies responded at 4:26 a.m. to an armed robbery in progress at Shell Circle K at 7654 W. Lincoln Hwy in Frankfort. The attendant said that at 4:24 a.m. a man entered the store wearing a face-covering mask with eyes that looked like those of a bug or alien. The masked man pointed a silver semi-automatic handgun at the attendant and placed a mesh bad on the store counter. The attendant gave the masked man approximately $120 from the register and the robber ran from the store. The masked man was described as 5 feet 5 inches tall and of a slender build. Voter Registration Deadline is Oct. 9; Early Voting and Absentee Voting is Available

As the November presidential election nears, make sure you're registered to vote. The deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 6 election is Tuesday, Oct. 9. To register, you'll need two forms of valid ID, such as a driver's license, utility bill, library card or other forms of identification. So, where can you register? Gas Main Ruptures at Route 30 and 78th Ave.

Police and firefighters block off Route 30 in both directions as crews work to fix a busted gas main on the corner of Route 30 and 78th Ave.

Frankfort police and firefighters are on the scene of a gas main break in Frankfort Square, near the corner of Route 30 and 78th Avenue. The gas main was spilling gas vapor into the air around 2 p.m., as first responders took control of the situation. It is unknown how or why the main broke, but authorities are working to stop the leak. Traffic on Route 30 was blocked off in both directions as crews began work on the leak around 3:15 p.m. Traffic will be blocked in both directions until Nicor can fix the leak, said Frankfort Fire Department Batallion Chief Sean Fierce. Fierce added that the Nicor crew could fix the leak one of two ways: either by clamping the pipe at both ands and sealing the leak or simply by patching the leak. A …

Frankfort Man Arrested Twice in One Night in Mokena

Police said Matthew M. Warner, 45, tussled with cops after his second arrest. He's charged with DUI, aggravated battery and felony criminal damage.

All in the matter of hours, a Frankfort man was arrested twice in Mokena on Dec. 16 and slapped with 13 offenses related to drunken driving, fighting and destruction of police property. Police said they stopped a car in the 19900 block of LaGrange Road at 1:20 a.m. for squealing tires during a turn and swerving between lanes. Officers smelled alcohol, according to the report, and asked the driver if they knew why they stopped him—to which he replied, “Yeah, I was kind of all over the road.” Matthew M. Warner, 45, of the 21300 block of Windy Hill Drive in Frankfort, was arrested, police said, after failing field sobriety tests and telling police he had mixed as many as five beers with unknown painkillers before getting behind the wheel.
