POLL: Are You Glad Brian Papa Has Returned to Coaching?

Papa, who was fired last year from his boys soccer coach position, is back coaching the girls soccer team. Is this a good move?

Brian Papa, the Lincoln-Way East High School boys soccer coach who was fired from that position last year, has returned to coaching at the school as the girls soccer head coach, according to the Chicago Tribune. Papa, who had led L-W to two second-place finishes in the Class AA boys state soccer tournament, was let go as the boys coach because the district wanted to go in a different direction with team. His dismissal, however, came after reports Papa allegedly made a comment about an opposing player after a loss against Lincoln-Way Central High School. Also, I feel compelled to comment. He was an awful coach! He constantly screamed at us, girls were crying all the time, and he did not know that much.... The guy admitted, he never even played, that's why he recruits people that are great players! He is a potato shaped man that is just good at bullying teenagers.   more ›

UPDATED: L-W East Boys Soccer Coach Fired

Brian Papa is removed to give the team a better chance to succeed, a school spokeswoman says. But reports allege the coach was let go because of comments to a L-W Central player after a game.

Brian Papa has been fired as boys soccer head coach at Lincoln-Way East High School. "The district wanted to go in a different direction in the East soccer program," said Charla Brautigam, assistant director of community relations for Lincoln-Way High School District 210. The firing comes after Papa allegedly made a comment about an opposing player after a Sept. 27 loss against Lincoln-Way Central High School,according to a story in the Chicago Tribune.  However, Brautigam said the decision to let go of Papa midseason had to do with the team and performance. As a former female player of his from the beginning of his LW career, I feel compelled to comment. He was an awful coach! He constantly screamed at us, girls were crying all the time, he made me hate the sport, and he did not know that much.... The guy admitted, he never even played! L-W East High School officials recently removed Papa as boys soccer head coach because they wanted to give the players a better opportunity at success. Did they make right decision?

This week, Brian Papa, the longtime Lincoln-Way East High School boys soccer head coach, was fired. The school district said it made the change midseason because it wanted to move the soccer program in a new direction and give the players a chance to succeed. Media reports, however, claim the firing came after Papa allegedly made a comment about an opposing player after a Sept. 27 loss against Lincoln-Way Central High School. I checked the poll results today and saw 442 respondents. 442! The Gallup organization would kill for that kind of response. That's incredible. Be interesting to find out what area those votes were cast from. Is it an East -Central rivalry thing? If not, then there was obviously some concern for a long while.   more ›
