Defense attorneys want the judge who found a New Lenox man guilty of punching another man into a coma outside a Mokena bar to step down.
Hours after a Will County Judge found a New Lenox man guilty of punching another man into a coma, she received an email from the state's attorney's office. Attached to the email was a statement from Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow about the case. The judge, Sarah Jones, said she never opened the attachment, but the lawyers for the New Lenox man awaiting sentencing for the fateful punch want her off the case anyway. "It's about the appearance to everyone in the county—it's about the appearance to the citizen's of Illinois," defense attorney Dave Carlson said as he argued Judge Jones should recuse herself from the case of Joseph Messina during a Thursday afternoon hearing at the Will County Courthouse. Messina, 24, was found …

Frankfort's Fire and Police Commission wants the alleged victim of Frankfort cop Donald Walsh to testify before a disciplinary hearing, reports the Sun-Times Media.
While the courts are pursuing the criminal case against Frankfort Police Officer Donald Walsh for alleged aggravated domestic battery and burglary charges, the official disciplinary action by the Frankfort Board of Fire and Police Commissioners is seeking testimony from the victim. That may be a violation of the victim's rights. Walsh, who is accused of beating his former girlfriend in July 2012, is facing a hearing of the Fire and Police Board. Village Attorney David Silverman is seeking testimony from the victim, who fears she could be at risk if she agrees to testify. The Will County prosecutor in the case, Dave Neal, told Will County Judge Bobbi Petrungaro "he believes the village’s desire to subpoena the woman violates her rights …

If former Lincoln-Way Central High School teacher Ryan Gardner is found to have been insane when he allegedly threatened district officials, he will be found not guilty.
A date was set to determine whether former Lincoln-Way Central High School teacher Ryan Gardner was insane when he allegedly threatened district officials. Gardner, 41, has been jailed since Jan. 16. Before that, he was receiving psychiatric treatment at University of Illinois Hospital in Chicago. Gardner's attorney, Alexander Beck, said at a previous hearing that Gardner's mental state improved while he was at the hospital but has since "deteriorated." Gardner's fitness hearing was set for May 17. Beck has been trying to prove that Gardner was legally insane when he allegedly made a Dec. 6 telephone call to Lincoln-Way School District Deputy Superintendent Thomas Eddy. About a week after the call to Eddy, the authorities in the Danville …

Prosecutors added a count of residential burglary to a Frankfort cop's felony domestic battery case.
A Frankfort cop charged with beating up his Mokena girlfriend was slapped with an additional count of residential burglary during his arraignment Friday morning. Donald Walsh, 29, pleaded not guilty to that charge, as well as to the counts of domestic battery and aggravated domestic battery he was already facing for allegedly attacking his girlfriend in July. Special prosecutor Dave Neal said the residential burglary charge stems from Walsh allegedly breaking into the home of his 32-year-old girlfriend with the intent to batter her. The girlfriend accused Walsh of slipping into her house while she slept in the early hours of July 25. After "verbally assaulting" her and demanding to see who she had been calling on her cell phone, the …

I have worked in law enforcement for many years and know many fine people. Sure some of them are just like you, prone to misbehavior and poor judgement, but 99% of them are fine upstanding people who are in a position in which they have to force people to follow the laws that decent society has enacted. Unfortunately, in today's world the misbehaved outnumber the well behaved. I hear that bananas…   more ›
Former Lincoln-Way Central teacher Ryan Gardner's mental state improved while he was in a Chicago hospital, but has deteriorated in the three and a half months he's been locked up in the county jail, said his lawyer.
Former Lincoln-Way Central High School teacher Ryan Gardner got his chance to talk in court Monday, but passed on it. Gardner, who has been jailed since January for allegedly threatening Lincoln-Way school district officials, still wanted to speak even after his attorney warned him that prosecutors could end up using his words against him. "That's fine," Gardner told his lawyer, Alexander Beck. "I've been doing a lot of research since I was in jail," Gardner said, "and I've read a lot of books." Will County Judge Edward Burmila asked Gardner why he wanted to address the court. "See, your honor, everything is pushed," Gardner replied. "Pushed, pushed back." Beck has been trying to prove that Gardner was legally insane when he allegedly made…

Very well said Jed. It's beyond obvious he needs help. I do wonder though if he had been treated due to his mental history. Many that are treated with medication tend to stop taking their meds because they think they are mentally sound when in actuality it is the meds that are doing their job. If he is medicated and stops his meds he can become a threat to society. There has to be a better way of…   more ›
The Frankfort pediatrician charged with molesting five women in his doctor's office was arraigned on a 16-count indictment.
A Frankfort pediatrician charged with groping five women in his Colorado Avenue office already lost his medical license. Now he can't have a passport either. Dr. Kishor Jain, 59, was ordered to turn in his passport during his arraignment in Will County court Thursday morning. Jain's attorney, Gerald Kielian, said the passport had already been surrendered the the sheriff's department, but Jain would still comply with the order. Special prosecutor Dave Neal, who asked Judge Robert Livas to order Jain to surrender his passport, said he believes Jain is originally from India. Jain faces 10 counts of felony criminal sexual abuse, five counts of misdemeanor battery, and a single count of criminal sexual assault for allegedly groping five women …
