Do You Need a Pool to Stay Cool? Tell Us How You Beat the Heat

Burning up outside, but don't want to waste a a gorgeous day inside? Without an outdoor public swimming pool in the area, what are the alternatives to air-conditioning? Share your ideas on how you cool off during the hot months.

With all of the parks, Breidert Green and all those miles of Old Plank Road Trail, Frankfort is filled with some great outdoor areas where you can enjoy a beautiful summer day. But when the heat gets to be too much, options start to dwindle if you're looking for a place to cool down and still be able to stay outside. Commissioner's Park, run by the Frankfort Park District, and Frankfort Square Park District's Community Centers have designated Splash Parks, where residents can find some relief by running through their water sprays. Area Children Celebrate at Back to School Bash

Games, music, dancing, playground and splash park send kids off to school with smiles on their faces.

Younger kids are excited to head to school while the older ones, well, not so much. That was the general consensus at Frankfort's Commissioner's Park on Thursday for its Back to School Bash. The event was hosted by the Frankfort Park District and sponsored by Harris Bank. "I'm excited to go back to school to see all my friends," said Genevieve Gujral, who will begin second grade later this month. "I've had a lot of fun here." Gujral spent nearly a month this summer with her cousin, who made the long trip to the United States from India. Now, she'll make a short trip of her own throughout the week to go to school.
