The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, now they are open and wrapping paper is everywhere! Merry Christmas!
If your family room is anything like mine, it's probably full of tissue paper and bows and the last remnants of wrapping paper torn from presents that were ever-so carefully piled beneath the tree. Hopefully everyone is in good cheer on this beautiful, non-white Christmas, day and enjoying time with family and friends. We want to know though: what is your favorite part of Christmas? Is it something you got this year, like a new iPhone 5, sweater or pony? Or is your favorite gift something that can't necessarily be wrapped up and placed under a tree? Is it spending time with your family? Eating cookies? Caroling? Let us know in the comments. And have a very merry Christmas.

A step-by-step guide on how to make your own elegant additions to the Christmas tree, and avoid expensive manufactured ornaments.
This past holiday season, I set out to look for new decorations for my Christmas tree. My living room was newly decorated with items from Thailand, accented with warm blues, greens, and browns. I hoped to find ornaments that would compliment the color additions to my home. Unfortunately, most of the holiday decorations were bright green, red, and white, and none of them matched my decor. I eventually discovered a glass ornament stand on the upper-level of the mall filled with a spectrum of swirling tones in warm rich colors. I selected a few that I loved the most and checked the price tags - $35 each! Disappointed but not defeated, I sought out a less expensive way to decorate my tree and still keep a sophisticated look. Using a little bit…

The New Lenox-based Chicagoland Lionel Railroad Club brings generations of train lovers together.
Miniature train collectors and enthusiast from throughout the Chicago area crowded Saturday into the Chicagoland Lionel Railroad Club open house in New Lenox. The 5,000-square-foot club facility was certainly decked out for Christmas, meaning plenty of miniature trains were circling Christmas trees and looping their way through a complicated system of modular layouts. The Polar Express huffed its way along tracks right along with Thomas the Train and authentic looking Santa Fe freight trains, Alco chuggers and passenger trains out of the yards of New York Central and Penn Central stations. Blake Laughton wins a $50 gift card to Jewel-Osco for his patchwork Christmas sweater.

Sunday, December 25, 2011
I have to say, it wasn't easy picking the craziest, most outrageous Christmas sweater of those that were submitted. But the patchwork ensemble of Blake Laughton (the guy wearing the Santa hat) took the cake this year. Not only does the sweater have an outlandish design, but it's a wee bit too small. Plus, the faux braids help the look. "I'm just glad someone has finally recognized it," Laughton said. He's won a $50 gift card to Jewel-Osco for his participation. I've also included some other sweaters that almost made the cut in our photo gallery. Thanks to everyone who entered, and merry Christmas! WANT MORE CHRISTMAS STORIES? Christmas is about family and traditions for me, spending time with loved ones, whether they be family or firends, near or far. It is the day we honor the birth of our Lord and remember HE is the reason for the season. It means giving, not only in the form of presents, but gifts from the heart. This year for me it also includes a new tradition of lighting a candle and letting it burn all day and …   more ›
