High Times For Marijuana Music Man: Court Supervision

A Caribbean music record company owner has a drug dog's lack of punctuality to thank for getting him out of a felony pot charge, but he still couldn't get his marijuana back.

Martin Scott was looking at a possible 30-year prison sentence after a police dog found pot in the trunk of his car back in September 2011. But a Cook County judge decided this week that the 41 minutes a state trooper made Scott wait for the dog to show up was too long, and ruled that the marijuana could not be used as evidence against him. Without that evidence, prosecutors decided to drop the case. Scott, 52, said he is the owner of Kingston, Jamaica, based UIM Records. He also said he obtained his marijuana legally in California and asked if he could have it back. He was refused. Scott left the Markham courthouse a happy—and free—man, and strolled away puffing on his electronic cigarette. Not too many other people written about last …

This time, a woman is accusing Dr. Kishor Jain of molesting her underage daughter.

The Frankfort pediatrician facing a felony sex case for allegedly groping five women in his office and already targeted in no less than three civil suits filed by women claiming he molested them was sued again Thursday. This time, one of Dr. Kishor Jain's patients from the Hedges Clinic has accused the pediatrician of sexually assaulting her underage daughter. The woman, identified only as "Mother Doe" in the suit, said she took her daughter to Jain's office on June 19, 2012, for an examination and to get a prescription refilled. After the visit, the child followed her mother out, the lawsuit said, "when all of a sudden (Jain) unbuttoned and unzipped the minor plaintiff's pants while she was standing and put his hand inside her underwear…

No one knows the facts. He has no trial date set, only pretrial. As we all know, and if you don't, this could end at the pretrial and never go to trial. People stop acting like you know it all, unless you can state the facts and share with the rest of us who are expressing our concerns!!   more ›

Pop! Soda Hits Boy's Head in New Lenox Supermarket, Says Lawsuit

A woman is suing the New Lenox Berkot's after her son allegedly knocked a soda off a display and it hit him in the head.

Allegations of an unsafe soda have prompted a woman to sue the New Lenox Berkot's. The woman, identified in the lawsuit only as Kathy Harmon, claims she was shopping in the 2141 Calistoga Drive supermarket in February 2011 when her son, Daniel Harmon, grabbed a soda from a display. The lawsuit describes Daniel Harmon as a "minor" but does not provide his age. The attorney for the Harmons, William Rock of Joliet, could not be immediately reached for comment. After Daniel Harmon grabbed the soda, the lawsuit says, another soda fell from the display and hit him in the head and face. Daniel Harmon was injured by the dropped drink, the lawsuit said, and he "experienced pain and suffering. He has incurred medical bills. He lost time from his …

Court Supervision: Will Drew Peterson Get a New Trial?

Drew Peterson was in court last week trying to get a new trial, and there were a few other people with cases too.

Drew Peterson was brought into a courtroom packed with reporters and had a hearing to set the date for another hearing to see if he can have a do-over of his murder trial. That was the biggest thing going on at the Will County Courthouse last week, but it wasn't the only thing. Let's look at what else was going on in the week that was:

Animals and Kids: It's About Love

There's something about pets and kids that can make parents go all mushy. But what does the relationship mean to children?

Madeline Hauser had a rough year. Amid all of the upheaval that is adolescence, the awkwardness, the insecurity, the bevy of change that accompanies the metamorphosis from child- to adulthood, Madeline grew an unprecedented four inches in six months. And, according to her mother, the growth spurt has required more than just physical adjustment. "She's a 5-foot-8-inch 12-year-old. It's been hard for her to find success at something. Here, she finds succes," Madeline's mother, Shayla, says to me one Friday evening at Nova Quarter Horses in Mokena. Madeline rides breezily by in the arena, warming her horse up at a spirited walk for a lesson. My most cherished childhood memories took place at a barn. It's been ages since I've had the time or …
