The downtown business was recently recognized for its customer service and community involvement.
Downtown Frankfort business Chew on This Dog Barkery was recently recognized for its customer service and community involvement with an award from the American Pet Products Association and Pet Industry Distributors Association, according to a press release from Chew on This. “We are very proud of this award,” said owner Teresa Kara, who was honored last month at Global Pet Expo 2013 in Orlando, Florida. “I have an incredible staff and we have the best customers around.” Chew on This was selected for the Customer Service Excellence Award in part because of its work with local animal shelters. Local business representatives explain why Small Business Saturday is important for the Frankfort community.
Black Friday may be dominated by mega-sales at big box stores, but Saturday is all about the little guy. Nov. 24 is the third annual Small Business Saturday. “We can’t compete with doorbusters at Kohls and Target,” said Teresa Kara, who owns Chew on This Dog Barkery in downtown Frankfort and serves as secretary of the Frankfort Historic Business Association. “This is a way for us to create a niche.” Created by American Express in 2010, Small Business Saturday is the local business owners’ answer to Black Friday. The national event takes place the Saturday after Thanksgiving and encourages customers to patronize independently owned businesses during one of the season’s busiest shopping weekends. Participating stores typically offer sales …

Local business owners are hopeful, but still have many concerns regarding the economy in the wake of the recent elections.
The 2012 elections may be over, but their results will be felt for years to come. The economy was a central campaign issue in the final weeks and months leading up to Election Day. Patch checked in with several members of Frankfort’s business community to get their take on what the future holds for business owners post-election. “The state of the economy isn’t an easy fix,” said Ken Hawke, owner of Star Visions Photography and a member of the Frankfort Historic Business Association. “I don’t care who the president is, it’s not that simple.” Frankfort business owners are approaching the economic future with tentative hope. Hawke said he thinks job creation will increase, but that it will do so very slowly. Hawke also feels that young adults…

Unless you have a novelty desk calendar—or a overly perceptive canine with a novelty desk calendar—you probably didn't realize that Aug. 26 is National Dog Day. PHOTOS: Share Your Pictures From the First Day of School Now that you do know it's National Dog Day, what are you going to do about it? It's probably too late to cook breakfast in bed for your dog. And all the National Dog Day cards are almost certainly sold out at Chew On This Dog Barkery. That means all that's left is letting Fido drink from the toilet all day or sharing your photos of you and your dog on Patch. (We suggest the latter, but far be it from us to tell you how to raise your dog.) YOUR TURN: Does Your Pet Have Character? Show Us In fact, we'll get you started with …

Canines from around the south suburbs were decked out in their best costumes for the Howl-A-Woof Dog Parade on Thursday at Commissioners Park. The event, sponsored by the Frankfort Park District and Chew On This Dog Barkery, had dogs trick-or-treating for doggy snacks and competiting for prize baskets. Check out the Patch photo gallery to take a look at some of the pet-size costumes.

The volunteer members of this four-year-old village committee work year round on revitalizing the downtown.
Frankfort's historic downtown is one of the village's most distinctive features. But it also comes with challenges, especially for the businesses occupying it. That's where the Downtown Frankfort Partnership comes in. With a multitasking mission to preserve, develop and promote the village's downtown, the partnership, now in its fourth year, works with businesses to achieve these goals through education, event planning and capital improvements. It's through these efforts that the organization is trying to keep the downtown district profitable and vibrant. After several years of research and planning, the partnership, which consists of downtown building owners, business owners and residents, achieved its first major capital improvements …
