MONDAY, APRIL 15 Two cars were sprayed with red paint in Frankfort, according to reports. One happened in the 7300 block of West Braemar Lane. A 2007 BMW was spray painted on the wheels, windows and plates. Two garages in that same area also were hit. The other vehicle vandalized was a 2008 GMC Arcadia that was parked in the 19000 block of South Sophie Court. SATURDAY, MARCH 23 About 1,800 cartons of cigarettes and smoking accessories were stolen from Ameen Discount Corp., 7954 W. Lincoln Hwy., in Frankfort, according to a report. Sheriff's deputies heard an alarm going off. After investigating, deputies found a shattered window and the rear door open. About 40 cases of the smoking products were reported missing. A Harvey man in jail on a burglary charge out of Frankfort says he is afraid correctional officers will kill him for lawsuits he filed alleging he was beaten and abused.
Six months after he was locked up in the Will County jail on burglary and theft charges, William Jenkins said guards bashed his head against a shower stall wall before pushing and punching him during a strip search. Six months after that alleged attack, the 29-year-old Harvey man said members of the jail's black-clad Emergency Response Team locked went into his cell and beat him so badly he was sent to the medical wing for two weeks. Jenkins sued six different deputies—three in connection with each alleged attack—shortly after the respective incidents. And now he fears he will be killed for blowing the whistle, said his lawyer. The Frankfort business canceled its tobacco license on Tuesday, after being burglarized several times in recent months.
Former Frankfort business Tobacco House canceled its tobacco license on Dec. 18 at a village hearing. The tobacco shop, which was located at 19985 La Grange Rd., closed on Nov. 28. Former location manager Mir Razvi said at Tuesday’s hearing that the business was forced to close. Tobacco House was burglarized three times in the last six months, most recently in early November. During the Nov. 4 burglary, more than 30 cartons of cigarettes were stolen. Frankfort Deputy Police Chief Kevin Keegan said in an earlier interview with Patch that this type of criminal activity could be the work of organized crews of professional cigarette burglars. Frankfort business Tobacco House was burglarized Sunday night. The incident is one of multiple tobacco store burglaries to have occurred in the Frankfort area during the last six months. Frankfort police received a burglar alarm notification at 10:59 p.m. on Nov. 4 from the 19900 block of S. La Grange Road, according to Frankfort Police Department deputy chief Kevin Keegan. When police arrived, they found signs of forced entry. Officers met with a witness who said they saw two black male subjects exit the store and enter a small, black vehicle. Two Chicago men believed to a part of a gang-related string of suburban burglaries, including at least one in Frankfort, were charged Thursday. Tyrone Hughes, 22, of the 4100 block of South Prairie and Christopher J. Carter, 20, of the 600 block of block of West Vermont are charged with possession of stolen property.
