Bengals Rally Past Griffins to Repeat as Tourney Champs

Plainfield East's boys basketball team overcomes 11-point halftime deficit to beat Lincoln-Way East in Lincoln-Way North's Pheast of the Phoenix Tournament finals.

Plainfield East's boys basketball team hoped to kick off its season by repeating as champion of Lincoln-Way North's Pheast of the Phoenix Thanksgiving Tournament. That goal looked to be in jeopardy on Friday after Lincoln-Way East jumped out to a 15-4 advantage and still owned a 34-23 lead at halftime. But the Bengals responded to the adversity by turning up the defensive pressure in the second half. Plainfield East used a 10-0 third-quarter run to get back into the game and added a 17-2 spurt in the final period en route to a 59-48 victory in Frankfort. Leading the way for the Bengals (4-0) was Deontre' Brown, who was selected as the Tournament's MVP after scoring 18 of his game-high 27 points in the second half. With his team trailing …
