Family, Friends, Teammates Say Goodbye to L-W East Freshman

Hundreds of mourners turn out Tuesday for the funeral of Patrick Mizwicki, the New Lenox teen killed after being hit by a car during cross-country practice.

The youngest of eight children, Patrick Mizwicki was his large family's mascot, known for his sense of humor and his ability to touch the hearts of those around him. That's how one family member described the 14-year-old Lincoln-Way East High School freshman who was killed last week after being hit by a car during cross-country practice.  On Tuesday, hundreds of mourners filled St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Frankfort for the New Lenox teen's funeral, listening as those who knew Mizwicki talked about his love of sports as well as his love of making others laugh.  WATCH: L-W-East, H-F Hold Moment of Silence Before Game for Patrick Mizwicki Those attending the service were a mix of family, friends and classmates. Students from L-W East …

PHOTO GALLERY: L-W East Cross-Country Team Runs to Honor Patrick Mizwicki

Members chose to run the Richard Spring Invitational in Peoria on Saturday together so they could start and finish as one in memory of their teammate who died in an accident Thursday.

On Saturday, Sept. 17, I witnessed a beautiful, humbling and inspiring moment at the Richard Spring Cross Country Invitational in Peoria. My son is a member of the Lincoln-Way East High School cross-country team, which lost one of its own, Patrick Mizwicki, during a practice run on Thursday. I went to Peoria on Saturday to support my son, his team and their coach, Ross Widinski. I did not go on behalf of Patch, but what I ended up capturing on film for our family tells a story which needs to be shared. Two Crashes Shut Down I-80 Lanes

Three-car accident closes a lane of eastbound traffic; vehicle fire does the same on opposite side of interstate.

Two accidents closed down lanes in both directions of Interstate 80 east of LaGrange Road on Friday night. A three-car crash shut down a lane of eastbound traffic, while another vehicle caught fire directly across the interstate on the westbound side. No one was seriously hurt from the eastbound accident, said an Indiana State Police officer on the scene, although an ambulance was seen leaving the site.
