Road Work Set to Begin on I-355 South Ramp to I-80 East

Heads up. Traffic lanes will be reduced, but the ramp in New Lenox will remain open.

Repairs are scheduled to begin next week on the exit ramp from southbound Veterans Memorial Tollway (I-355) to eastbound I-80 in New Lenox. Traffic lanes will be reduced during construction, however, the ramp will remain open.

Beginning the week of April 14, the southbound exit ramp to eastbound I-80 will be reduced from two lanes to one. Repair work will include replacement of concrete pavement approaching the ramp, storm sewer and guardrail work, as well as pavement marking. Work is expected to be complete this summer.

The project is being coordinated with the Illinois Department of Transportation and Will County, as well as local municipalities and fire and police departments. Up to 14,610 vehicles use this ramp daily.

Work Zone Safety

A 45 mph speed limit is in effect 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in all construction zones, whether or not workers are present.  Drivers should continue to watch for changing traffic patterns and use caution at all times.

The minimum penalty for speeding in a work zone is $375. Posted signs advise drivers of a $10,000 fine and 14-year jail sentence for hitting a roadway worker.

Lenny Kravitz, I was thinking the exact same thing. This is a relatively new stretch of road and one that is not as busy as most of the other highways. There should be no way this needs repairs already. Whomever was the contrator when it was initially built should be barred from winning any future contracts. It certainly appears their work is shoddy at best.

There a huge dip that developed in that section of the road about two years ago. They've tried some temporary repairs, but last fall put up a "Bump" sign, so I figured that they had given up on it. I'm glad to hear that they are going to finally fix it.
