AIA Fair: What to Know Before You Go Sunday

The American Islamic Association holds its annual community fair and picnic this weekend. Find out what to expect and check out what last year's event was like.

For members of the American Islamic Association, the annual community fair and picnic is the equivalent of inviting a bunch of neighbors over to the house to enjoy a relaxing summer day.

But in this case, the house is a house of worship, Frankfort's mosque, which opened in 2006 and sparked this event. And the neighbors are anyone from Frankfort, as well as the surrounding communities in the area.

"I just love the fact that neighbors do come out and interact firsthand with Muslims," said Khalid Mozaffar, the communications and outreach director for AIA, in an interview last year about the fair. "I just love seeing the reaction, especially the first time people visit us."

The fair runs from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 10. Here's what's on tap:

  • American and ethnic foods
  • Interactive tours of the mosque
  • Blood drive and free health checkup
  • Games and activities
