Toi Hutchinson Will Run for 2nd Congressional Seat

Toi Hutchinson Will Run for 2nd Congressional Seat.

Toi Hutchinson today announced that she will run for the second Congressional district seat recently vacated by Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr..

“Families in the South Suburbs and the southside deserve a representative who understands their concerns and who will work alongside President Obama to create new jobs, rebuild our roads and schools, and protect the gains we’ve made on equal pay, health care and civil rights,” said Hutchinson.

A State Senator since 2009, Hutchinson has fought to make schools safer and protect seniors from abuse.  Hutchinson worked with state and federal officials to speed up plans for the Illiana Expressway, which will bring much needed economic development to the southland.

In Congress, Hutchinson says she will focus on creating jobs and long-term economic development, protecting Social Security and Medicare from Republican efforts to privatize them.  Hutchinson will fight to ensure that the hard working families of the Southland do not bear an unfair burden of deficit reduction.

"That's why today I've decided to run for Congress. I'm going to work hard every day to help the people of the Southland and I'm looking forward to earning your support over the coming months," Hutchinson said.

Toi Hutchinson’s south suburban senate district covers the majority of the second Congressional district. She has served the 40th District as Senator since her appointment in January 2009. Prior to her appointment, Toi served two terms as Village Clerk for the Village of Olympia Fields, and was Chief of Staff for Senate Majority Leader Debbie Halvorson.

With over 15 years of service dedicated to her community, Toi’s civic involvement includes Community Liaison and Vice President of Diversity, Inc., the Government Affairs Council of the Chicago Southland Chamber of Commerce, Vice Chair of the Olympia Fields Planning Commission, University of Illinois Extension Program Executive Board, and a host of other community boards and commissions.

Toi earned a Bachelor of English degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana and was a student at Northern Illinois University’s School of Law when she began her first term in the Illinois Senate. Toi and her husband Paul live in Olympia Fields with their three children.
