UPDATE: And the Winner in Fan Balloting for Patch Athlete of the Week is ...

Lincoln-Way West's Kaitlyn Neiheisel placed second in diving at the IHSA state swimming and diving meet. She finished No. 1 in voting for Patch Athlete of the Week.

Lincoln-Way West's Kaitlyn Neiheisel defeated five others in voting for Patch Athlete of the Week, Nov. 13-19. She is now eligible to be featured as Patch Athlete of the Month for November.

The nominees for Southland Patch Athlete of the Week, Nov. 13-19, were:

Cheyenne DeGraff, junior, girls swimming, Lincoln-Way North. DeGraff placed in two events at the IHSA state swimming and diving championships. She finished 10th in the 200 I.M. with a time of 2:07.40 and 12th in the 100 breast with a clocking of 1:06.76.

Chaz Duson, senior forward, girls basketball, Rich Central. Duson’s all-around play powered the Olympians to a 49-43 victory over Andrew in the championship game of the T-Bolts’ Turkey Tourney. She scored 14 points, had three steals and two rebounds.

Bria Gaines, junior center/forward, girls basketball, Bloom Township. Gaines helped the Blazing Trojans get off on the right foot with a monster game against Shepard. She scored 29 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in a 54-33 victory.

Taylor Johnson, senior point guard, girls basketball, Lincoln-Way East. Johnson’s play helped power the Griffins to a 4-0 start. She scored 20 points and had eight steals in a 74-68 victory over Marian Catholic.

Brianna LeBeau, senior guard/forward, girls basketball, Richards. LeBeau is more than a Northwestern softball recruit and ace pitcher. She scored 13 points in the Bulldogs’ 46-29 victory over Reavis at the Richards tourney.

Kaitlyn Neiheisel, senior, girls swimming and diving, Lincoln-Way West. Neiheisel capped a big week with a second-place in diving competition at the IHSA state meet in Winnetka. She finished with a point total of 382.15. Earlier, she announced plans to attend Illinois State University and compete in two sports on the college level.
