The Next Level: L-W East Student-Athletes Announce Their College Choices

Coaches praise 17 Griffins Wednesday as they commit to the schools they'll be attending this fall.

Seventeen student-athletes announced Wednesday afternoon the colleges they're commiting to in order to continue their athletic careers.

Lincoln-Way East athletic director David Brost led the ceremony, while the coaches of each athlete briefly discussed each player.

The following are the student-athletes and the schools they'll be attending:

Elise Bicek

Sport: Soccer
Position: Outside midfield
College: Concordia University
Why she's going there: “I really fell in love with the campus when I first visited. They also have a good school for my major, and I like the atmosphere.”

Isabella Colangelo

Sport: Cheerleading
Position: Flyer
College: Olivet Nazarene University
Why she's going there: “I picked this school because of its amazing Christian atmosphere. I felt right at home when I visited.”

John Kanapick

Why he's going there: “I liked it, and they are giving me money.”

Jon Lavin

Why he's going there: “It met all of my needs for choosing a college. It was also able to provide me with other benefits that other schools were not able to.”

Greg Magrum

College: Milwaukee School of Engineering
Why he's going there: “Because they have a superb engineering program and are one of the top D3 volleyball programs in the nation.”

Erin Mangia

Why she's going there: “I picked this school because it is close to home and also because I got the most scholarship money from there.”

Zoey Mucha

Why she's going there: “I was interested in the cheerleading and academic programs.”

Why he's going there: “I picked Coe because it had the right balance of academics and football.”

Why she's going there: “I really liked the campus and felt comfortable with the team and program.”

Why she's going there: “Basketball program, its distance and the physical therapy program.”

Why he's going there: “It just felt like the right place.”

Sean Piet

College: Orange Coast Community College (California)
Why he's going there: “I’ve always wanted to go to the West Coast.”

Mary Reilly

College: DePauw University
Why she's going there: “They have a beautiful campus, and the girls on the swim team were really nice.”

Conor Ryan

Sport: Soccer
Position: Midfield/forward
College: Loras College
Why he's going there: “I really loved it once I went to go visit it. It just felt right and is the place for me. It is a good school and known for the major I want to go into.” 

Sarah Saffran

Sport: Track and field

College: University of St. Francis
Why she's going there: “My beautiful sister goes there and loves it.”

Ryan Stuart

College: University of Wisconsin-Whitewater
Why he's going there: “I picked this school because I really loved the campus and coach there. They have a really good business school which is what I want to go into.”

Kaitlyn Van Dellen

College: Trinity Christian
Why she's going there: “It was a good fit, and I really liked it.”
