Tara O'Hea: She's a Mom, Teacher and L-W East Tennis Fan

Tara O'Hea, a former cheerleader at Providence Catholic, now cheers for her freshman daughter Maggie O'Hea and the Lincoln-Way East girls tennis team.

Mokena resident Tara O'Hea still can't believe her oldest child is in high school.

Maggie O'Hea started her freshman year at earlier this fall and is a member of the Griffins fresh/soph girls tennis team.

O'Hea, who like many parents often wonders where the time went, tries to find the time to make as many of Maggie's tennis meets as possible. Plus, she's also busy with her sons who are in fifth- and sixth-grade.

As a teacher at Chelsea Intermediate School in Frankfort, O'Hea doesn't get out of school until around 4 p.m., but that still gives her enough time to get to home meets, as well as those at nearby high schools.

She was at Lincoln-Way East last Tuesday to root on Maggie and doubles partner, Catie Delia. The two are the No. 2 doubles team on the fresh/soph team and they helped the Griffins cruise past Lincoln-Way West 7-0.

"It's a good sport and a lot of fun to come out and watch," O'Hea said. "She's made a lot of friends on the tennis team and has a lot of supporters, including her grandparents."

On Monday, the Griffins were scheduled to play at Plainfield South at 4:30 p.m. O'Hea wasn't planning to get to that one to cheer on Maggie, but she expected Maggie to still have plenty of support.

"Her dad is going to be there," O'Hea said.
