Summit Hill Baseball Places 4th at IESA 3A State Tournament

Summit Hill made a strong showing in the state championships.

The Summit Hill baseball team capped off their 2013 season with a fourth place finish at the IESA 3A State Tournament at Eastside Centre in East Peoria.

After defeating Hickory Creek 9-8 in walk-off fashion in a thrilling regional final, the Spartans shutout the Manteno Panthers 3-0 in the sectional championship to advance to the Elite Eight.

In their Elite Eight contest, the Spartans squared off against an undefeated Mahomet-Seymour club. Summit Hill trailed 2-1 until the top of the seventh inning when they pushed across four runs to take control of the contest and earned the come from behind 5-2 victory.

The win advanced Summit Hill to the final four where they played Coal City. Despite many offensive opportunities, the Spartans could not get the key hit when needed and fell to the Warriors by a final of 6-4.

The team found more offensive hardship in the third place game as well, as the key hits continued to not come and they fell to Mt. Zion by a final of 3-2.

Summit Hill finished the 2013 campaign with an overall record of 18-6 on the season and this trip to state marked the sixth consecutive appearance in the Elite Eight for the Summit Hill baseball program.

Members of the Summit Hill baseball team for 2013 were: Danny Zimmerman, Mason Keenan, Brendan Figus, Matt Clark, Tyler Safarik, Max Cesario, Ethan Lambrigger, Julian Everett, Cameron Lee, Michael Wallace, Max Malley, Ryan Ritter, Riley Boyter, Danny Sajewski, Bryce Frederickson, Logan Anderson, Patrick Radecky, and Jared Mutter.  Statisticians for the 2013 season were Joe Frederickson and Brett King. The Spartans’ were coached by Fred Pufahl and Michael Deutscher.
