Stokes Lifts Lincoln-Way East to Soccer Victory

Griffins' Jake Stokes scores the lone goal to beat Lincoln-Way North.

Goals have been hard to come by for the boys soccer team.

So have wins.

The Griffins got a much-needed victory on Saturday, their first since Sept. 6. They finally broke a six-match winless streak, with a 1-0 win over .

"We're struggling to score goals and we have a lot of guys out and a lot of guys playing out of control," East coach Brian Papa said. "I think they're trying too doggone hard, but I keep telling them it's adversity and there's really no excuse to not put the ball on frame."

Jake Stokes scored the lone goal of the contest.

The Griffins have a big matchup against Lincoln-Way Central (10-2-1) on Tuesday.

Phoenix Win West Chicago Swimming and Diving Meet

The Lincoln-Way North girls swimming and diving team won the West Chicago tournament last weeked with a total of 411. Glenbard West/Glenbard South co-op was runner-up with a 381, followed by a 247 from the hosts and a 238 by Bartlett.

Not Much Fun at Warrior Blast

The Lincoln-Way North girls volleyball team completed play in the Waubonsie Valley Warrior Blast tournament with losses to Hinsdale South, St. Ignatius and Waubonsie Valley. They were swept in two games by the Hornets but had three-game battles with St. Ignatius and the tournament hosts.

Boys Golfers Take 3rd in Will County

The Lincoln-Way East boys golf team took third place in Friday’s Will County Invitational at Wedgewood in Joliet. The Griffins finished with a 312, one stroke behind Lemont. Providence Catholic won with a 302.

Volleyball: Griffins Fall to Sandburg in Title Match

After having little trouble in defeating Lincoln-Way Central, 25-10- 25-16, the Griffins met Sandburg for the Division B championship in the Rich East Invitational. In a hotly contested match, the Eagles prevailed, 25-22, 29-27. Lauren Behrens was named to the all-tournament team.

Griffins Win Tinley Park Invitational, Girls Take 2nd Place

Led by a third-place finish by Tom Rotondi (15:57), the Lincoln-Way East boys cross country team won Saturday’s Tinley Park Invitational. In the girls race, Nicole Nepote (19:08) and Kaley McLaughlin (19:11) were the top performers for the Lincoln-Way East girls team which placed second in the large school division.
