Sports Photo Gallery: British Soccer Camp Kicks It Up a Notch in Frankfort

Kids had fun as they sharpened their skills in the weeklong camp, and Patch was there to catch some of the action.

The weeklong British Soccer Camp, sponsored by Challenger Sports, that were held in Frankfort focused on soccer skills and drills, but also on character development, lifestyle choices and "a healthy dose of culture of other great soccer playing countries around the world," according to the Challenger Sports website.

A British Soccer Camp does not differ from an American soccer camp by national distinction. Challenger Sports refers to it as "British soccer" because "all soccer comes from Britain," according to coach Nikola Cakarevic, one of the camp’s instructors.

Cakarevic played soccer in college for four years and played with other teams, as well. This is his second summer with Challenger Sports.

The Kesios sisters, Niki and Maria, attended the camp for the second consecutive summer.

"The coaches make (camp) fun," Niki said.

The sisters enjoyed doing “I'm a pink fluffy star jumping jacks” rather than regular ones.

Greyson Cox is also a returning camper. He agreed that camp is "really fun," adding, "They teach you a lot of stuff that other camps don't teach. We really learn soccer skills."

Coach Cakarevic summed up the mission of the camp.

"They (Challenger Sports) want to bring soccer and the culture of the sport to America,” he said. “The kids are in great physical condition here, which is good for the sport. We just need to teach them the skills to be great soccer players."
