Signing Day For Lincoln-Way North Student-Athletes

These Lincoln-Way North students will continue their athletic endeavors in college.

The Lincoln-Way North Athletic Department hosted its fall college signing day at Phoenix Hall.

Six Lincoln-Way North student athletes participated in the National Letter of Intent ceremony: Shannon Murphy, Ellen Graham, David Calderon, Colleen MacDougall, Casey Zimmerman, and Derek Lee.

Matt Lyke, North Athletic Director, opened the ceremony by saying, “We are extremely proud of our student athletes and honored to be a part of the experience. You have always represented Lincoln-Way North High School in a positive way, and it is much appreciated.

“The path to success is only realized by accepting the responsibilities to lead, by utilizing an unyielding initiative to achieve, and by daring to take on any challenge that arises. Each of you did this,” Lyke said.

Shannon will play volleyball for Tusculum College in Greenville, Tenn. Her coach is Mary Brown. Shannon will major in physical therapy. Her favorite subject in high school is math.

Ellen Graham will play basketball at Lafayette College in Easton, Penn. Her coach is Jim Nair. Ellen will major in either economics or math, or maybe both. Her favorite subject in high school is history.

David Calderon will play baseball at Morehead State University in Morehead, Ky. His coach is Mitch Nowicki. David will major in criminal justice. His favorite subject in high school is math.

Colleen MacDougall will run cross country and track for Aurora University. Her coach is Jack Young. Colleen will major in physical education. She hopes to be a teacher and coach.

Casey Zimmerman will play volleyball for the University of Saint Francis in Joliet. Casey is planning to major in psychology. Her favorite subject in high school is history.

Derek Lee will play baseball for Richmond University, Richmond, Va. His coach is Mitch Nowicki. Derek plans on majoring in business. His favorite subject in high school is math.

“We know you will dedicate yourselves as you prepare for the next phase of your life,” Lyke said during the closing of the ceremony.
