Lincoln-Way North Softball Hitting on All Cylinders

The Phoenix outscored three opponents 35-6 and were on an offensive tear heading into weekend action.

The Lincoln-Way North softball team was looking for its fourth consecutive win when it faced Andrew on Friday. And for more offensive firepower.

North blasted Thornwood 13-2 on Monday behind a few strong performances with the bat. Katie Plotke and Kelly Sweeney each had two hits, and Leann Buzzard had three hits. Plotke led the team with 3 RBIs, while Sweeney and Buzzard each chipped in with two.

Sweeney continued with her hot bat on Wednesday, getting two more hits and two RBIs in a 17-0 blowout against Thornridge. Kirsten Iversen threw a no-hitter and fanned 10.

Soccer and Breast Cancer Awareness

The Lincoln-Way North and Lincoln-Way West girls soccer teams raised awareness and funds for Breast Cancer Awareness on Thursday night when they met for their 2nd Annual Breast Cancer Awareness game in Frankfort.

Senior Night for L-W North Boys Volleyball

The Lincoln-Way North boys volleyball team honored its five seniors during Thursday's Senior Night, but the result against Andrew wasn't nearly as memorable as the Phoenix dropped their second match in as many days to drop to 22-12.

"We had a tough game against Lincoln-Way East (on Wednesday) and then Andrew just played really well, passing well and with good defense and serving," Lincoln-Way North coach Matt Lawrence said. "We have another week to hopefully turn our ship around for the playoffs."

Lawrence hasn't been able to pinpoint the reason for the team's recent struggles, but he won't deny that opponents have played well, too.

"We've struggled a little bit lately, but we're still competing with good teams," he said. "We're just coming up a bit short and now we're running out of time to close games out."
