L-W North's Balcerzak Shuts Out L-W Central, Bloom

Phoenix gird for a big girls soccer match against Andrew on Tuesday.

The Lincoln-Way North girls soccer team edged Lincoln-Way Central 1-0, thanks to a Rita Craven goal on Tuesday. Then, on the Thursday, the Phoenix cruised to a 6-0 win over 6-0 Bloom. Goalkeeper Michelle Balcerzak earned shutouts in both victories as the Phoenix improved to 11-4-1.

Lincoln-Way Gets Acclimated to Varsity Lacrosse

The Lincoln-Way lacrosse team is playing its first varsity season this spring. The teams is made up of players from all four of the Lincoln-Way high schools.

The team has had a bit of a rude awakening at the varsity level with a 2-6 record through April 28, but the team has been competitive in most of its contests.

Victories for Lincoln-Way include a 16-4 decision against Minooka and a 12-10 victory over Lane Tech. The team has lost several close games, falling 9-6 to Homewood-Flossmoor and 10-7 to Marian Catholic, as well as dropping one-goal decisions to Lemont (6-5) and Chiefs Lacrosse (12-11 in overtime).

The team plays its games at all four of the Lincoln-Way high schools.

Lincoln-Way’s remaining home games this spring: May 2 vs. Homewood-Flossmoor at Lincoln-Way North; May 4 vs. Schaumburg at Lincoln-Way West; May 16 vs. Geneva at Lincoln-Way West; May 18 vs. St. Rita at Lincoln-Way East.

Lincoln-Way Co-Op Wins 10th Consecutive Title

Lincoln-Way had no problems on Wednesday night in the Southwest Suburban Conference boys gymnastics meet and will now turn its attention to next week’s sectional and then, in all likelihood, the state meet May 13-14 at Lincoln-Way East. Baseball: Lincoln-Way North Hammers Thornridge

The Phoenix cruised to an 18-0 win against Thornridge on Thursday as Mother Nature finally allowed the Phoenix to take the field. Jake Harper (4-1) struck out 10 in four innings. Jack Troike went 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs and A.J. Neufeld homered for the first time this season.

Welcome Back, McGovern

Kelly McGovern is back.

After an injury ended her basketball season, there was some doubt concerning whether Lincoln-Way East’s Kelly McGovern would be able to play soccer this spring for the Griffins.

She’s back. McGovern returned to the playing field on April 19.

The Lincoln-Way East girls water polo team fell short against Sandburg on Tuesday, losing 14-9.

IHSA Changes Wrestling Weight Classes

The IHSA is changing weight classes for wrestling beginning next winter. The 103-pound class has been replaced by the 106-pound class.
