L-W East Baseball Starts Week with a Stunner

Griffins rally for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to top St. Laurence.

Lincoln-Way East bolted to quite a start to the week on Sunday, rallying for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat St. Laurence 10-9 in the Stevie’s Way Tournament Challenge at Standard Bank Stadium in Crestwood.

Alec Ornelas delivered the huge blow, hammering a two-out, three-run game-tying triple. He then came home to score the winning run on a base hit by Matt Rosenberger.

The Griffins continued their winning ways on Thursday, blanking Joliet Central 8-0 behind Matt Von Albade’s effort on the hill. Von Albade struck out 12. Dan Huizenga, Chris Scott and Rosenberger all had two hits and drove in runs. For more on this game, check out coverage in The Herald News.

Freshman Breaks School Record at L-W East

Add Lincoln-Way East freshman Dana O’Grady to the list of young track and field athletes to watch this spring and beyond.

O’Grady, who was an impact basketball player on the sophomore team during the winter, broke the school record in the 400 dash at the Urbana Invite with a time of 1:00.81. She ran an even better time during a relay, but times in relays do not count toward school records because they are a part of a different event.

Softball: Lincoln-Way East’s Unbeaten Streak Ends

The Griffins' bid for 12 straight wins to open the softball season came to an end on Thursday against Homewood-Flossmoor.

It was a game of minimal highlights for a Griffins team that has dominated opponents on many occasions this spring. Aubrey DeGroot and Jorgi Calombari both had two hits apiece to lead the Griffins.
