A crisp Fall morning greeted a crowd of over 275 runners and walkers who participated in the Old Plank Road Trail 5K Run Saturday.
This year marked the 17th anniversary celebration of the race.
Participants from Chicago, Tinley Park, Orland Park, Joliet, Oak Park, and even as far as Iowa enjoyed the run through the scenic Old Plank Road Trail in Frankfort.
The overall male winner was Rod Kral (18:48.95) of Bradley and overall female winner was Lauren Clark (23:14.01) of Plainfield. The overall male winner for walking was Matt Wozniak (39:08.88) of Frankfort and overall female walker was Nicole Newman, also of Frankfort (40:03.78).
Frankfort Mayor Jim Holland welcomed the participants and congratulated the winners during the award presentation ceremony immediately after the race. Trustee Mike Stevens and Village Clerk Keith Ogle volunteered during the race.
During his welcoming remarks, Mayor Holland acknowledged the generous donations and support from Old Plank Trail Community Bank, Jewel Food Stores and Hardin’s Family Farm from the Frankfort Country Market. Holland also thanked all the volunteers, the Frankfort Police Department and ESDA for their event support.
Joe Ranieri of Fit After 50 provided an energizing warm up exercise program for the participants.
“The OPRT race is one of our signature events, and it is always a pleasure to welcome so many Frankfort residents and visitors from nearby communities to this annual event," Holland said. "Not only can they enjoy the Old Plank Road Trail as they run or walk, but they also have an opportunity to experience our downtown district and beautiful community.”
