Hot Shot: Lincoln-Way East's Julia Piech Selected as Athlete of the Week

Julia Piech, Lincoln-Way East's top badminton singles player, continued her winning ways this week. She began with a 21-11, 21-19 victory over Lincoln-Way North's Taylor Healy on Thursday. On Saturday, she won first place in first singles in the T.F. North Invite to guide her team to the championship.

Her strong start has earned her Patch Athlete of the Week honors.

Piech's victory against Healy was part of a big win over the Phoenix on Thursday as Lincoln-Way East swept the doubles matches and won nine of 10 singles matches.

“Julia is an exceptional athlete,” Lincoln-Way East coach Alison Jozsa said.

Piech recently finished a strong basketball season as the Griffins won a regional title and went 25-6. In the fall, Piech was a member of the volleyball team.

She also plays a mean guitar.

“I attended a concert here at school in order to watch her during school play the guitar,” Jozsa said. “Julia excels at anything she does and will do everything in her power to be the absolute best.”
