Griffins Clipped in Summer Baseball Playoffs

Joliet Catholic's late rally eliminates Lincoln-Way East from the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association tourney.

Lincoln-Way East got the best of Lincoln-Way North during the spring baseball playoffs, ending North’s season in the Class 4A Sandburg Sectional semifinal game.

On Wednesday night, it appeared as if a summer rematch would be in store, as the Griffins led Joliet Catholic Academy 5-4 going into the bottom of the seventh inning. But JCA's Adam Collins and Alex Voitik hit solo home runs in the inning to hand the Griffins a stunning 6-5 loss. That ended Lincoln-Way East’s run in the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association summer playoffs, and it spoiled the potential L-Way East vs. L-Way North rematch.

L-W East Alum, Enns, Dazzles in Cape Cod League

Lincoln-Way East 2009 graduate Dietrich Enns has posted an ERA of 0.76 in more than 20 innings of work this summer for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks. Enns, a left-hander, also pitches for Central Michigan University.

New Lenox Lightning Seniors Sign

All of the Class of 2011 seniors from the New Lenox Lightning softball program have signed to play at the next level. The list includes players of local interest, including recent Griffins grad Megan Butler, who will play at Olivet Nazarene. Also on the list are Alex Carr, who graduated from Lincoln-Way West in May, as well as Lincoln-Way Central’s Nicole Walshon, who finished up her career this spring. Carr will play at Maryville University and Walshon is committed to St. Ambrose.

Illinois State Disc Golf Championships

The 29th Annual Illinois Disc Golf Championships are scheduled for this weekend at Highland (Pilcher) Park in Joliet, on the New Lenox border. This course was established in 2008 and has become a local favorite in a short time with its challenging holes that feature a variety of length and elevation. Local players and players from around the country are expected to compete.
