SLIDESHOW: Frankfort Girls Softball Celebrates 35 Years on the Field

The highlight of the softball league's Opening Day ceremony was the first pitch thrown by cancer survivor Sydney Meekma, who will play her first full season with the league.

Last weekend, the Frankfort Girls Softball league celebrated its 35th season with an Opening Day ceremony Saturday at .

The event featured a parade with the grand marshalls being mothers of FGS players who played in the league as children, as well as a pitch-and-run competition and free food.

The ceremonial first pitch for Saturday's Opening Day was thrown by Sydney Meekma, an 8-year-old cancer survivor from Frankfort who will be playing her first full season with FGS.
