Extra Points: At L-Way East, Team Concept Rules

Three players scored in double figures in the Griffins' win over rival Sandburg on Wednesday night, setting the stage for more March Madness.

There is a word to describe the Lincoln-Way East boys basketball team.

Deep.

With Jebril Yancy seeing limited time due to illness, it was up to other players to rise to the occaison in East's 45-32 victory over rival Sandburg in a semifinal game Wednesday at the Lincoln-Way North Regional.

Zoran Arsenovic led all scores with a career-high 15 points, and the Jones brothers, Jeremy and Jaelan, added 12 and 11.

Arsenovic scored nine of those 15 points in Lincoln-Way East's 21-point fourth-quarter run.  He credited the win to his teammates.

"We kept fighting and getting to the line," Arsenovic said. "It was a good team effort and we had a lot of people step up. We have to come out ready for Thornton."

East next will face Thornton at 7:30 p.m. on Friday in the regional title game. But, first things first. Griffins coach Rich Kolimas also noted his team's unselfish play.

"We were down a player, and I asked our guards to step up and rebound," Kolimas said. "As usual, it's a team effort. We never know going in who is going to step up, which is good. Our opponent never knows who will step up."

Lincoln-Way East will have its hands full Thornton, no doubt. Not only will the Griffins need to use their depth, but they will need to have players step up, just as Arsenovic did against Sandburg.
